I'm not sure, but I'm thinking the transition tag salary wouldn't be that much lower than the franchise tag salary, so there's really not much reason for the Skins to use it, considering they'd receive no draft pick compensation anyway. Last edited by joecrisp; 02-05-2005 at 08:41 AM. |

The transition tender for 2004 was $5.7 million. Considering the franchise tender for 2005 jumped by $2 million over 2004's $6.8 million tender, you could expect that the transition tag for 2005 is probably in the range of last year's franchise figure.
Essentially, by giving Smoot the transition tag, the Redskins would be offering Champ Bailey money for Smoot, without the protection of draft choice compensation. |

thanks for the info joecrisp.
We clearly cant afford to franchise him. I guess we'll see waht Smoot wants to do, the ball is kinda in his court right now

I love Smoot- CBs that actually hit people in the mouth rule. 8.8 mil is too much for a CB, and Williams seems like he could pick a fan out of the seats and make him a decent defensive player, but say we cut Smoot and save a buch of money. You know Snyders dumb ass is just going to flush the money saved by signing some washed up peice of crap player with a big name to an inflated contract (can somebody say Deion?). At least w/Freddy we know what we've got.

I concur.........Springs really did a terrific job. Pro Football Weekly even had Spings listed as one of the top 50 players of the year.................. |
