Like Jaws said repeatedly, you have to be willing to make throws into tight windows in the NFL. Guys are not going to be running open very often. Now the Redskins receivers do struggle to win one-on-one match-ups, but Campbell also does not allow the guys an opportunity to succeed. Clearly the offensive line is a serious problem, but the MNF guys did a very good job of highlighting the many instances where Campbell left plays on the field. That missed double move to Moss was heartbreaking, but Jaws saw it right away and the production crew went directly to the wide shot. That is Emmy worthy stuff right there. I have bashed the ESPN MNF crew in the past, but they are really on point this year.

I noticed the increased motion as well. That is something that Zorn never seemed to grasp for whatever reason. He was completely unable to determine match-ups through pre-snap formation shifts and motions.

I also noticed that there were a lot more passes on 1st down (aka the best down to pass in the NFL). Maybe someone can quantify that, but anecdotally it seemed significant.

So basically what you saw was someone calling plays who actually has a grasp of how to call an NFL offense. Who understands that you need to dictate matchups and that you have to break tendencies in order to be successful. To my eye it was the best playcalling we have seen all season. I did not expect much, but I was impressed. Obviously the execution was piss poor. I think it basically highlighted how unprepared Zorn was to call plays in the NFL.
I was going to mention the exact thing. Jaws and Gruden did a great job analyzing the game. Jaws, you could tell, was trying to give JC the benefit of the doubt, but couldn't let some things slide. He kept saying..let it fly Jason...sometimes your not going to have a reciever wide open. He kept saying trust and follow your instincts. They mentioned the fact JC was just rattled and that he's got to look downfield.

Great analysis by those guys. Seemed like there were more wrinkles thrown into the offense too. A rollout, some good screens, some throws to DT, etc. Who knows, how much a difference it was though.

Gruden just might be my favorite analyst now. He's got a bright future in the booth. But he's going to look good in B&G.

Re: Sherman Lewis, what was his effect

I thought the playcalling was much improved. Some good plays though our o-line played poorly especially Heyer. Rabach stunk up the joint with his 2 mis-snaps and JC, well, I'm glad he will be gone by the year's end.

I like the shotgun formation with both Betts and Rock. Fred Davis played well last night showing good hands though he needs to work on his pass protection. Sherm Lewis mixing things up did keep the D on their toes though our offense showed little passion and urgency. I think Zorn is doing a poor job of getting the offense fired up. Maybe its because JC always shows no emotion that the whole offense just go through the motions.

I'm sure Snyder will fix things during the bye week and we'll be on the road to the division title, the playoffs, etc.
Yeah, Snyder the genius does it again.
Season is over. Nothing left to save worth killing yourself or getting hurt. These guys rolled over weeks ago and still are rolling. Sense of Urgency, I love that phrase. You won't see it with these guys.

Also, using 2 halfbacks in the backfield at times gave us an added dimension and it worked fairly well considering we have no line. We also used the shotgun a lot more than under Zorn, something we were all asking for since the line can't block. It was very effective when Rabach was able to actually get the ball snapped into JC's hands. I was very pleased with the selection of plays and the lack of predictability.
Agreed in full.

Hall never got a chance, it went out. Moss scored last year with the same shoddy blocking and came close to breaking another one. He just falls to his side easier than ARE now.

Yep, watch the plays on SportsCenter or in other games.. the good qb's put it where it needs to be and the WR makes the catch, that DeSean Jackson catch is the exception, not the rule.. but then Campbell check down and put it right on a perfectly covered guy because he doesn't know what to do, like on that batted ball/INT.. he was going moss who had a guy closing in on him and if I recall correctly.. a guy on his inside, of a slant...

Good seeing other people saying that he won't let the receiver make the catch

Re: Sherman Lewis, what was his effect

One more point to add to my bountiful posts

The 2nd pass to Davis in the end zone looked to be directed towards Davis.. even though the first pass was behind him (he did manage to get both hands on it though), I can't see Zorn going back to Davis on the next down, whether it was a different play or not

I think that's one thing that we see being a difference between the two

great point. I don't think Sherm was thinking: "i'm not going to pass anymore since we aren't catching the ball"

especially to a the same guy

and I think that I mentioned it before but there'd be about a -45% chance that Zorn would've run the same play on the botched snap, the one that Thomas scored on.. yet thomas was open again
