Re: Redskins hire offensive consultant

Too bad. Clearly this Sherman Lewis move is just more owner meddling with the team, and is destroying the team. Reminds me of when Gibbs was forced to give up his offensive coordinator role to whats-his-face (what could've happened if he kept it??). Sure, Lewis not a big move -- but it undermines the coach & team, and the team chemistry is falling apart. Sherman Smith is upset about Sherman Lewis, Portis is fighting with Sellers, Blache stopped talking to the media, and Zorn -- well, he's a *good guy* -- but how much respect does the team give him if they know he won't be there for long..

I think their drafts have been suspect & their free agent moves have often failed, and they just keep changing coaches and putting them at fault.

So looking back two years ago with the often talked about 3 second round picks... What if.. What if we actually drafted an offensive line two years ago?? INSTEAD of the receivers and TE we have that combined for -1 yard -- and actually drafted for NEED? Guess hindsight will tell us, but so far I just WISH we had a line that could actually create holes for Portis and betts. I just look at the HUGE running lanes that other running backs get down the middle of the field and I salivate....

See thinking ahead and planning with your draft is how you building championship teams, WE DONT DO THAT HERE IN WASHINGTON. Our FO strategy is knee jerk reactions and plug hole strategy. Send draft picks away and then overpay free agents who never perform at their pay level. God, go to the salary cap central page here and prepare to throw up...my favs are Andre Carter, Portis and ARE contracts personally. There was an thread up here a couple months ago about "why we are the laughing stock of the NFL", its a direct result of are FO management. So far our play contributes to that laughing stock title as well hiring Bingo-callers and our D Cord being too sensative to reporters questions. Back to our 3 draft picks of the second round, you seen their play so far this year, might as well be ghosts out on the field because we getting goose eggs contributions from them. Its really just sicking to watch us hit bottom.

Gibbs was forced to hire Saunders?

Interesting.

Got any concrete evidence of that?

i thought gibbs wanted saunders because his(gibbs') offense was struggling. plus, i remember seeing an interview with gibbs and when he was asked if he had any regrets gibbs replied something like "i should have never brought saunders here"

Our lack of running game is a serious and major liability to the offense.
Everything else is so much easier on offense when you can run the ball well.

We have a serious lack of investment in offensive linemen in draft. There was a vocal group here during the last few drafts pissed we did not draft more OL. I was one of them. We have drafted one lineman in the last three years, Chad Rinehart. During those three years we knew we had an O-line that is old and can not stay healthy. This under performing line did not come on suddenly, we knew about it and did very little to address the problem. .

Re: Redskins hire offensive consultant

If you think about it, Zorn was given x number of players to run his offense. Those players were selected by Cerrato with Snyder's blessing. The players aren't good enough, so Cerrato has to shift the blame to the coaches. The Redskins had a suspect offensive line and the #4 defense in the league. So Cerrato/Snyder "strengthens" the defense and gets waiver wire linemen to shore up a porous offensive line. I think Orakpo and Jarmon are going to be excellent players for the defense, but right now we need offensive help. The 'Skins traded Champ Bailey for one big headache (plus they threw in a second round draft choice) and the net result is terribly bad front office management, and the blame gets shifted to the coaching staff.

Re: Redskins hire offensive consultant

I forgot to address the actual thread topic: One more example of Cerrato shifting the blame - hiring a bingo caller who wasn't selected to go with Holmgren to Seattle. I always liked Sherm Lewis, but Cerrato is making the Redskins look sooo Baaad!!!

Re: Redskins hire offensive consultant

I can't do this anymore . . .

Snyder and Co. have ruined the Redskins for me, and perhaps even football, because for so long the two have been synonymous in my mind.

I have seen way too many dumb FO moves and regime changes, and i don't watch foot ball for the drama of team management. If I did I would be thoroughly entertained, but I want to watch a TEAM develop and strive, and MAKE PROGRESS.

It is becoming clear to me, I need a new team. Does that make me a fair weather fan? No F'n way. I have never seen fair weather for this team. Not once in my 15+ years of fandome.

So if you were a fan during Gibbs I both envy and pity you. If it suits you, keep living in the past. As for me, if this team gets turned on its head again this season, if Zorn IS being undermined, if this IS another cryptic transition to another regime then I have had enough, I WILL turn my back on this franchise. I encourage everyone else to do the same . . . This is not the Redskins you remember. It is an undead franchise, a redskins zombie infected with the Snyder virus. IMO, there's only one cure. Shoot it in the head.

I would stop watching football all together rather than switch teams, go ahead and pick a winner to root for but are you going to change again when they suck too. All teams go through slumps whether they are 2 years or 15 years.

Re: Redskins hire offensive consultant

What bothers the ever loving crap out of me is what someone else pointed out on here....We bring in Lewis to look at the system and see what can be done differently and our coach's are in a totally different mind set as if they are not going to hear it.

Sherm Smith said, "It's not like he's going to come in here and tell us what we don't already know, it's all about exicution."

which means they have a closed mind and are not going to be open to hearing they are the problem. Cause they already think it's not them or the play calling or scheme....it's all the players and exicution.

I think there are some things that can be done differently but MOST of it IS execution IMO.

Yeah he missed that block, didn't hit the hole fast enough, and didn't throw the winning touchdown. Or did he? LOL!!!
