My bet is Jansen will have a hard time making any NFL team besides the Redskins. Even the Lions.

For real. It's gotta be well know that tampering in these cases is pretty widespread. How can anyone actually come to terms on multi-year (and often complex) contracts in minutes if there wasn't prior discussion?

Maybe. Im pretty sure though he is solid depth at the very least for the Lions. I think if he signs he will easily make the roster for the regular season. If he was playing in DC for the vet min he would still be on the team imo.

Yeah I feel the same way dude. Where does the time go?

That 1999 Draft was insane the way Casserly wheeled and dealed. The 1999 and 2000 drafts should of built a dynasty for the Redskins. Im still upset how the Skins didnt take those two drafts and win for a decade.

Its official....

Lions signed OL Jon Jansen to a one-year, $845,000 contract.

Jansen is 33 and declining, but the Redskins shouldn't have let him get away. He is still an effective run blocker and was only costing them $1.35 million. The Lions got an even better bargain and could use Jansen at right tackle or guard, where his pass protection shortcomings would be less problematic.

Tampering. Wouldn't they have to know he was getting cut to even start to begin talks with him or they just got lucky and picked the right guy to tamper with. I'd say its a better chance that the skins maybe tried to trade Jansen first and the Lions knew there was a good chance he was getting dumped.

Glad to hear Jansen caught on with another team quickly. Good for the Lions too, Jansen is now the best offensive lineman that they got and he'll do alot of good there.

I'm glad rotoworld thinks it's okay to keep a player who can do half his job "effectively".

After Landing Jansen, Lions Dump George Foster
Posted by Mike Florio on June 1, 2009, 12:04 p.m.

The Lions’ decision to sign tackle Jon Jansen promptly after he was cut by the Redskins proves that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

The only problem in the NFL context is that, when reeling in someone else’s garbage can, the team must then must designate someone else as solid waste.

In the Lions’ case, the victim is tackle George Foster, according to Tom Kowalski of Mlive.com.

Foster came to Detroit two years ago in the trade that sent Dre’ Bly to Denver. Foster signed a one-year deal after the 2008 season to stick around.

In 2007, Foster appeared in 15 games, starting nine. His contribution to the 0-16 season was less extensive, playing in four games and starting three.

The six-year veteran becomes an unrestricted free agent.

Maybe he’ll sign with the Redskins.

Per Kowalski, the Lions also cut fullback Jon Bradley.

Jansen is still a very solid lineman. His ability in the run game and his 10 years experience are nice to have on any NFL team. At the very least he brings solid depth behind Cherilus and possibly a move to guard. His pass protection isnt what it used to be but any player who is going into his 11th NFL season will not be as good as he use to be in pass protection.

I believe the Lions just got a very solid lineman who brings leadership and knowledge to a team that probably needs all they can get after not winning a game last season. I think Jansen will have a rebound season in Detroit as he tries to prove to the Redskins who released him and the Lions who signed him that he can still play at a high level.

JJ still has some gas in the tank, it might not be much but I think he can still play. That said I don't disagree with the Skins moving on. It had to be done sooner or later.

Foster was pretty good in Denver for a while. Sounds like he fell off pretty hard. If Detroit didn't want him anymore & they signed Jansen, they must really think he's done.

Culpepper is the superior lineman but JJ should give him a run for his money
