Come on people, you gotta be kidding me. This guy's days as a beast on D are long over with. Acquiring him is like when we acquired Deion Sanders or Bruce Smith on the downward spiral of their respective careers. Deion what gave us 2-3 picks? Bruce was somewhat productive, but we could have signed a more viable younger long term option for what we paid him. We need to draft our defensive linemen. There are always some nice hungry DEs or DTs coming out of the college ranks every year. Let the guy(Taylor) play through his contract and let him retire. His best days are behind him and he is only here to get one more big payday before he retires. Snyder's stupidity seems to know no bounds.

Taylor is the Redskins bust of the year....cut him as soon as you can.
I bet Phillip Daniels could play better than him now...and remember....he's on injured reserve.

Not to mention we gave the Dolphins a 2nd and a 6th rounder.
The 2nd rounder would have probably been the ideal pick for a young DE...were screwed.
Thanks for sucking Jason.
Parcels made the Skins Front Office look like idiots...ugh

On any off-tackle play or stretch play the LDE is key to squeezing down the running lanes. If he can't do that, you're leaving huge holes to run through. Obviously the LDE shouldn't get hooked, but if he's fighting pressure and maintaining outside position that shouldn't be an issue. If he's doubled, then that frees up an LB to make the play and hold contain. JT has been a RDE his whole career, he's proto-typical for that position, hence his past success there. He's not an LDE who is normally bigger and stronger, also the technique is different because there are normally more double teams at LDE and many teams run more to the offensive right.

Before you question what someone's talking about get your facts straight and make sure you're up on your football knowledge and D-Line techniques. Listening to a Blache presser vs. actually coaching are two different things.
Thank you Slinging Sammy, I did not even want to waste my time. I am glad you explain it correctly.

i agree with both hock and slingin sammy. I think JT has done a decent to good job of extending and getting vertical if a run play is trying to stretch around the corner on him and he forces the runner to cut back in (which to my knowledge would be his assignment in this play). he doesnt hld up his end every time but he does a good enough job.

But imo when you run straight at AC or JT there quickness doesnt not help them and their lack of comparative strength hurts them.

just how my uneducated non-nfl coach eyes see it.

I'd cut Jason Taylor at the first opportunity as part of a major rebuilding project. And Taylor would only be one prominent name on that list. There would be others.

Does this team have the personel for the 3-4 or a hybrid version? Seams like JT and Carter's builds are more suited for the OLB position in a 3-4. JT was the defensive MVP in that style. The problem with this defense is getting pressure on the QB. Pittsburgh and Dallas get the majority of thier sacks with the linebackers. Montgomery would be a beast at the nose, and you would get a lot of rotation at the end spot with Golston,Alexander, and Griffen.

That is exactly what needs to happen, but at this point I would wait until the off season. We are not a superbowl contender that is one or two players away from making to the big game. We are about 5 to 8 players away from being a top team. We need to get rid of the older, over paid/under performing players like Jason Taylor. If he wants to take a pay cut to abour $2m he can stay. But he is not worth the $8.5M he will take up on 09. John Jansen is another, but his release fee is way too high $6.18M. It is higher the $3.4M he is scheduled to make. But Jansen's salary jumps to $6.4M in 2010. He is not getting any younger.

andre carter wasnt very good in SF the year he was a 3-4 OLB

16 games, 44 tackles, 4.5 sacks. as long as blache is our DC we wont have a 3-4 imo. if cowher came here which i doubt he would then we would see a 3-4
