re: Redskins trade for Jason Taylor (updated)

Based on this years draft we gave up our 1st round pick for (2) 2nd round picks, we will try to do a similar deal next year so giving up a 2nd for next year in my opinion isn't a big deal for a player of JT talent HAIL TO THE SKINS!

Love this move! JT for 2 years is better than any of this year's 2nd round picks so a 2nd rounder next year (hopefully a pick in the bottom third of the round) is a great deal. As for his detriment to the run game, expect him to play LB in Goalline or short yardage situations. He's been an OLB in the 3-4 recently so he would actually make the short yardage run D better.

This brings up a question for Chris Wilson, as what will happen to him? Since P. Daniels was not going to play as pass rusher - when D plays that package, then Chris Wilson comes in.. But now we have 2 premier rushers, what will happen to him? I'm not saying that we would release him or anything like that but I believe that would stunt his growth on the field..

This is almost as nice for them as getting a 2nd for Chris Chambers. Not quite that good, but close.
Seem to remember a certain Quarterback taken in the 6th round (#199 overall) that seems better than average.......guy named Tom Brady.

Don't discount the value of later round picks, although semi-rare some tend to pan out nicely. That is why so many teams trade out of the early rounds to acquire more picks in the second day rounds. Diamond in the rough and not paying rounds 1 to 3 contract is worth that risk.

You have got to love the quickness by the front office to fill in the gap. Great job

Spergon Wynn was also a sixth rounder. Scouts were just as high on him as they were on that other guy.

My point is this: people (and some football execs) overvalue 5th-7th round picks, but they seem to undervalue undrafted free agency as a means for roster filling. Because the bottom of the draft is screwed up, it makes sense to trade those picks for veteran talent, and be very agressive in signing undrafted free agents.

Many UDFAs don't get a fair shot because the team "invested" in a late rounder. If, instead, they kept the spots on their roster open, and signed a bunch of quality talent while only keeping the best, they'd be more efficient in team building.

You have to wonder how we did this so quickly. I mean we must have been in the talks for a couple weeks because it doesn't make sense that we could do this so quickly when teams have been trying to move Taylor for months. Also when we didn't give the dolphins more than they were being offered before. Again, good job front office

re: Redskins trade for Jason Taylor (updated)

I am ok with the 2nd. It's not like we traded for a chump. Is he a downside guy? Yes but we didn't trade a 1st (our m.o. usually) and we got a high charcter guy who will bring something to the table almost guaranteed. If we get one good year it was an ok deal if we get two then it was a good deal. If he gets hurt and sucks then that's life. If he just plain blows then we're cursed and it doesn't matter anyways to me.

How strange, we lose two DE’s to season ending injuries and we actually improve at the position.
