They'll probably deal with him to get some of the others in the area.

Vick brought this on himself, so he has to take his punishment, but if this is truly about dogfighting then I want to see the Surry County prosecutor go after dogfighters and not just Mike Vick. Vick is paying his penance, but dogfighting neither began nor ended with Vick, but I highly doubt that anyone else will even be charged because of this investigation. If its truly about ending this barbaric practice and saving dogs lives then why hasn't anyone else been charged? DJnemo65, I'm not trying to argue with you, just trying to understand.

There were others that were sentenced along with Vick. Vick is just the highest profile person involved, obviously.

There were four people charged by the government. Again, dogfighting is still going on, the three others Vick was involved with talked about multiple dogfights in several states, so if the real enemy is dogfighting and dogfighters, why is it that there are just four people in jail? These four people probably weren't even the biggest dogfighters in Virginia, yet I haven't heard about one dogfighter going to jail since Vick, not one. Again, not talking about anyone associated with Bad Newz Kennel, but about the littany of others continuing to participate in this. Or did dogfighting suddenly stop since Vick went to jail?

Re: Vick Sentenced to 23 months in Prison

I'm hesitant to call him a "victim" but the main reason surry co. wants to pursue the state charges is so that the prosecutor can save face. The feds got involved after the story broke & it was said that Poindexter (prosecutor) was reluctant to get a warrant because it was Vick & he didn't want to mess w/him. Now he has to show that he's tough on dog fighting.

Ironic, but after almost avoiding it because of his celebrity, if he faces charges by the state it's mainly because of his celebrity.

btw, I was in Surry county last week, beautiful place, always like to stop in there. I didn't see any dog fights or evidence of such, but I did witness a toothless redneck girl singing garth brooks at a waterside karaoke joint. (no offense if any of you are, or are affiliated w/toothless redneck girls)

Baltimore is supposedly one of the worst places in the country as far as the popularity and frequency of dog fights.

Exactly like those, thanks Matty. His celebrity is one reason why I think VA should not pursue the charges, he is probably best used as an agent of change than a face-saving measure from a prosecutor who wasn't even going to file charges in the first place. But he did the crime so let him do the time...

Re: Vick Sentenced to 23 months in Prison

one very real possibility is that the head asst states attorney for surry county wants the case for publicity to allow him or her to gain recognition and run for the VA attorney general position. gansler pushed hard to bring the sniper trial to mont co just to set up his election for the attorney general position. . . which he won. politics as usual around the beltway.

go skins!
