TE wasn't a need. I thought Tyler Ecker was coming along well. I guess we couldn't have drafted another WR. This will have to grow on me.

I was thinking the Seahawks would have grabbed him in the first instead of the Purdue guy... but Zorn knew what was up.

Trust me, they can use both BFD and Cooley in this offense. We're helping Cambell out immediately with this pick. Best player available.
Okay, it's great that Fred Davis is a beast, but this would be like taking a running back who's also a beast. There's only one football on any given play.

Blocking tight ends can be found anywhere, even in undrafted free agency.

This was a bonehead pick given all the needs we have elsewhere.

Strike one for Vinny.

Might be a little premature.

Cards just picked Campbell. I'd really like us to take Connor at ILB. Take over for Fletcher next year...

Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread

NFL Events: Draft Player Profiles - Fred Davis
Compares To: CHRIS COOLEY-Washington...As an H-back or playing the role of receiving tight end, teams will find Davis is quite successful at getting to the ball in the open. He lacks the "sand in his pants" along with bulk and strength to be a blow-up type of blocker and only gives marginal effort when blocking in-line, but he gets out in front on outside runs and while not physical, he will pester a second-level defender. He has the long reach and timing to get to the ball at its high point and has never had ball-security issues after the catch. Flex him out or keep him in motion and you will get very good production from Davis, especially when needing a bigger receiver to attack the deep secondary.

All depends on how Zorn plans to use TEs in his offense. He obviously thinks Davis can play a significant role.

Quentin Groves - not what I had as ideal but he is very productive at the college level.

Exactly. Do you all remember how many times we had to settle for 3 instead of being unable to either punch it in or get it to a reliable target inside the 10?

BFD will represent!

Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread

I know the rule of thumb is take the best player available but it should be take the best player available unless the best player available plays the same position as the best player on your team.

I loved the Thomas pick but this one seems sort of stupid to me.

I can see it already: "Campbell drops back to pass - Cooley, Davis, Randle El, Moss, and Thomas are all wide open! Oops - Campbell is sacked."

Or how about "Campbell throws another touchdown pass - his fourth of the game! Now the Redskins are only down by 21 points!"
