Re: Famous Redskins Fans

Albert Einstein was a Redskins fan. It is well documented that he didn't do any genius work 4 months out of the year because we wanted to concentrate on the Football season. Also, many believe that he formulated E=MC^2 while watching the Redskins.

Armstrong yelling How bout them Redskins was totally classic stuff. Showed some balls also. My dad always told me that Tricky Dick was the one that got George Allen to coach the Skins. Don't know how much of that is true, but it sure did give the franchise a shot in the arm.

What bothers me is that Gene Hackman wore that Tom Landry style hat in The Replacements. They wanted to use it to make him more recognizable.

While Landry was a great coach, to associate that great story to Landry made me ill.

Re: Famous Redskins Fans

The three non Darius Rucker members of Hootie and the Blowfish are Redskins fans. They played Hail to the Redskins on the set of NFL Sunday Countdown about 10 years ago and Darius sat there shaking his head and pointing at a Dolphins hat. Also, they sang the national anthem at the last game of the 1999 season (Jan, 2000) which was against the Dolphins.

Also the fat guy on that sitcom "Yes Dear" -you know the one with the chick from Uncle Buck, is always wearing Redskins gear. I think his character on the show is suppossed to be from Frostburg, Maryland.

Also, I don't know if this qualifies as being a Redskins fan, but Robert Duvall has said he based his character in Lonesome Dove on Sammy Baugh, who he met at the QB's Texas ranch at some point. Duvall also references Baugh at the very end of the film "Tender Mercies".

Also, the husband on the 80's sitcom "227" often wore a Redskins jacket as the show was set in D.C. That was the show with the sassy maid from "The Jeffersons."

Former Director of Central Intelligence Richard Helms was a huge fan. Jack Kent Cooke said he was the most football savvy politician he ever had in his box.

Also, Bernard Shaw and Leslie Stahl of newsreading fame are fans.

Re: Famous Redskins Fans

The guy from Yes Dear is Mike O'Malley (from GUTS fame; aka The Rick from ESPN), but I don't think he's the Skins fan...Mike's from Boston.

The creator of the show (Greg Garcia) went to Frostburg State, used to work for Tony Kornheiser, as well as The Don and Mike Show, and is the Redskins fan. He tends to put a bit of himself into the characters on the show, hence the Frostburg/Washington connection with Jimmy Hughes on "Yes Dear". Garcia also created "My Name is Earl", and the episode where Earl goes to the University and falls for Christine Taylor, the school is supposed to be Frostburg.

Oh, and you can thank IMDB for the above...I'm just the relay person

I understand your point because it is a Cowboys reference but back when Landry coached the rivalry contained a lot of respect. Landry was a pilot in World War II and a gentlemen. What the current owner of the Pukes did with him made me ill, he deserved better than what he got. My point is that the makers of the movie could have chosen worse.
