Dire straights at QB

It's become obvious to all of you...finally, that Mark Brunell sucks. At least most of you. I would just like to make a point about Ramsey to all of you who seem to think that throwing 3 picks against the Giants makes him suck.

When a quarterback comes in down 2 touchdowns he'll be pressing. He tries to do too much and he tries to make things happen that aren't there. I, for one, would rather see a downfield pick than Brunell throw the ball out of bounds in critical points in the game. Tell me how throwing 3 downfield picks was worse than throwing 1 touchdown pass to the other team. The only reason the Skins back in the game against the Giants was because Ramsey was trying to make plays. He played with a sense of urgency. Something he shouldn't have had to play with, but when you come in down 10 or 13 that's what you have to do. Brunell was the same QB the whole game and that one never would never have gotten close.

One last note...the Giants didn't score points off of any of the picks Ramsey threw. The only one Mark threw went back for a score; and it went to a f*cking defensive linemen.

Finally, I'd just like to say once again, that I told all of you Brunell couldn't play after the Cowboys game. I thought some of you wanted to have me crucified after that, but slowly but surely you're starting to come around.

Brunell hasn't gotten comfortable in Gibbs' offense yet. He may never be. I'm interested in seeing how well Brunell played in his last few games with JAX seeing how Leftwich kind of took over once given the opportunity and witnessing how Kurt Warner's play sort of deteriorated towards the end of last year and now he's doing okay. Eventually Ramsey has to be handed the reigns. And what a waste to have spent all that money on a veteran... backup!?

Brunnel will never be able to fit in Gibbs system until he finds a way to get the ball out to the sidelines for the 15 yard curl. Thats the throw all of Gibbs QB's could make and that is what kept the defenses honest. I just don't know if he has that throw in him anymore.

Maybe Gibbs will find something in the old Jax. tapes that Brunnel was comfortable with and add it to the game plan to get things working. He did that for Portism added the denver examples, and Portis had a great game.

Still, I think that Ramsey is the guy that we need to lead this team. It looks like Gibbs is really worried about him un-learning all that Spurrier stuff before he hands him the reigns.

I think in the last game that the coaching staff really worked on the run game by changing blocking strategies (using more cut blocks) and having Portis slow down a bit and read the holes. I think that really worked wonders and kind of changed the mind of a lot of people who had a lot of doubt.

Give Brunnel this week, the coaching staff is really concentrated on getting this offense going by jump starting the passing game so look for some new looks from the offense next week. Also, I think that they are going to put a big emphasis on showing Brunnel how to get the job done.

Gibbs said they would be working a lot against Williams different blitz packages to improve the offenses ability to give some better pass protection.

Bottomline: If they can get it done in a full contact (or almost full contact) scrimmage against themselves (the 2nd ranked D), then they can get things done against just about anyone in the league.

i mean whether or not its the system or whatever, a decent QB can hit a WIDE open reciever, and he couldnt do that in the bears game. jsut terrible

I agree that my gut tells me that Brunnel needs to be benched. He just cant seem to throw a pass for more than ten yards and be accurate. However, my faith in coach Gibbs is stronger than my gut instinct seeing as how I have no bust in Canton and he does.So I say go with Gibbs and you shall be rewarded.

Brunnel is clearly no longer any good. The only question i have right now is patrick ready to play. We have to remember that Ramsey has never played in a NFL offense. Tulane's system was very collegiate, and we all know about Spurrier's system. I think for the shake of his confidence that we should wait a few more weeks just so it is clear that Brunnel is not the guy and then turn it over to Ramsey.

When I saw him at that QB contest this summer i said is that all he has? Weak arm and old....can't move around and looks like he is one hit away from the IR. But real guys some of this has to be put on the o line. Our tackles suck and the center is right there as well. Samuels could end up being a very bad 1st round pick that cost 2 first round picks to move up to get the over paid wash out. He has so many mental breakdowns . He has a hard time handing speed rushers and especially when they keep thier pads low. He should run over people on the run but he just dosen't get the job done! I have to say we need to know now if Ramsey is going to be the guy or we need to look for somebody in the draft, trade or free agent! Please Gibbs get Ramsey ready!!! Free us from Burnell!

If Brunell cared about the Redskins and had respect for the game, he would go live in China like Rickey Williams and pay back his signing bonus.

Ahhh....another Brunell vs. Ramsey thread. Thank God. (end sarcasm )

Portis and the defense winning the Chicago game saved Brunell's job. I have faith in Gibbs, but I would also like to see what Ramsey can do in a real NFL offense....but like others have said, he needs to "un-learn what he has learned" from Spurrier, and Gibbs must not feel like he is there yet.
With Rasby out and Baxter in, I'm curious to see what new wrinkles they throw in this week.

For those of you who just hate Brunell, I think its time for me to come out and say that I hate Ramsey. I have never thought of him as a qb for the future he is a very inconsistent qb. Whether or not he has the exp. He is a qb that will always be suspect. His drop step is very lack a dasical and has proved that he can't read defenses very well. He has shown that he will commit to a certain route and throw blind at times instead of checking down. I do believe that he has been ruined by Spurrier and just may never adjust to a solid system, whomever is his coach. Until he proves to me that he is able to adjust to defenses, put some touch on the ball, then I can by into him as a solid qb.

Hey... I like Dire Straights. In fact, Mark Knopfler would be better at QB than me. He even has a good QB name. Knopfler. Knopfler. Sounds rugged. I bet he has a strong arm from all that guitar playing, and he can read defenses like sheet music. Twistin' by the pool...
