Draft '08
I know I'm getting a little ahead of things here, but I think it is clear that the Skins need one of two things- a Defensive End or a Wide Receiver. Not to say that I don't have trust in Moss and Randel El, but that pass over Moss' head on first down from the 19 showed one of the problems that the Skins have- not legitimate wide-out red zone scoring threat; we need a big guy, an Art Monk type receiver for those situations. On top of that, we just can't depend on Moss; he is hurt far too often. On the other side of the ball, our backfield is nasty, our LB's are great, and our DT's sufficient at stopping the run. We're just not putting enough pressure on the QB's.
Depsite all the injuries we've had this year, if we had just one nasty DE or WR, I believe our record would be a lot better. And we look good in almost every other position. So, the question is, is our off-season priority a DE or WR? |

Re: Draft '08
i say offensive line help would be nice because our O-Line is way too old and needs a major upgrade and as always a Defense player such as CB or D-Line would be nice because springs is on his last legs and until Rogers plays man on the wide outs we need a lock down corner ala CHAMP.

Re: Draft '08
A stud DE should be the #1 priority. We don't necessarily need a stud WR, we need a BIG WR that is a threat in the red zone. A Mushin Muhammad type, that can probably be had in free agency for a modest price. I hope the FO focuses on offensive line after the 1st round.

Re: Draft '08
Here's what I want from the draft...a low first round pick because we made a run in the playoffs.

1. agree with the low first round draft pick positioning comment.
2. we do not need a stud WR...we have good WRs, but I do agree we need a big WR body. 3. O-line help...we need some younger talent and more depth (clearly). 4. D-line help...we are just getting old here.

Re: Draft '08
Personally I'm hoping we can snag Chris Long out of Virginia in the draft...he's a ball hawk and quick as hell. My next priority would be Offensive line depth...all we can get...I just don't see where our line is that old like Brunell suggests...we've had several very young athlectic guys step up this year...so I think we'll be OK there if we can just get that "do-everything" DE (see Chris Long...lol).
As far as FA goes, a big body receiver, and a decent (doesn't have to be spectacular) corner to replace Springs who will probably be gone after this year. Just my thoughts and opinions...

My priorities would remain in tact...work on the O line first, then the D line...

Re: Draft '08
I have a feeling Springs is gonna hang up his cleats after this year because of his father, and with Carlos hurt we need a quality corner bad this offseason.

Re: Draft '08
Griffin and Springs will be back for one more season.
Our needs: DE OG WR DB We can address everything in our draft and FA signings, plus Espy will be back next year. |

Re: Draft '08
Well here's how I'd like to see it break down:
Offensive Line: I think we should spend multiple picks on depth on the line. I don't know that there is anyone I would take in the first round, but we need more than just one stud. We need to stock up on lineman in the middle rounds Cornerback: Who knows what will happen with Springs next season. Rogers won't be himself until 2009 most likely. Smoot is struggling to stay healthy enough to be our nickel. And I still can't figure out why Macklin is never active. I was pretty high on Antoine Cason going into last season's draft and I am again this year. Another guy who really has impressed me this year is Aqib Talib out of Kansas. What I don't want is for us to go after Asante Samuel. I think the money he'll command is better spent elsewhere. I'd rather draft one of the above CBs. Now, if we do go after a corner in free agency then the one guy I would take a look at (and he's not officially a free agent yet) would be Raiders DB Nnamdi Ashomugha (sp?). Wide Receiver: Really torn here. I was clamoring for Bernard Berrian a couple of weeks ago, but if Moss is healthy and KM can play like he has been the past couple of weeks maybe we don't need him. Also, I wonder if Reche can't contribute next year also. Defensive End: Jared Allen is the big name on the market and I wouldn't be surprised to see us make a go at him. But, and I may have mentioned this before, I heart Justin Smith. Plus he's having a down year this year so his price might be reasonable. But I'll throw this out there for the masses, would you go after Javon Kearse? Word is he won't be in Philly next year. So, in summary, CB in the first round, OL in the middle rounds, round off the draft with some QB. DE and maybe WR in free agency.

He's too good to replace, but we are going to need to get that pass rushing ability from elsewhere as he continues to age. 2-3 years down the road, he could end up as a cap casulty. He's a bona fide starter until then.

Re: Draft '08
Most WR's take 2 or 3 years to develop...the redskins can't wait that long to get a quality bigger WR...unfortunately that's a position they need to try again to address in free agency. They should draft quality youth on both lines of scrimmage with every high pick they have.

We need an explosive pass rusher, preferably from the DT position, but if we could get a big bodied end to rush from the side opposite Carter, that would be ideal too. Chris Long would be PERFECT, but again, we won't have a chance to draft him. We do need another player in the secondary. I would consider drafting one, but if I could sign Brian Kelly who seems to have gone to the bench for the Bucs, I think we could get a No. 2 type guy in the middle rounds. We also need a blocking TE, but the best of those guys can be found in the 4th round. Kearse is a pass rushing DE who hasn't been able to rush the passer in the last three seasons.
