Re: Where Was Calvin Johnson?
I'm happy CJ wasn't 100%, because he's nasty. Although Roy Williams is nasty too, and he didn't do squat either.

Re: Where Was Calvin Johnson?
Let's not forget Landry sealed the Philly win with that last thunderous hit on "White Lightning". How many games has C. "The Other" Johnson won singlehandedly for Detroit?

Re: Where Was Calvin Johnson?
Hail.. first time poster, long time reader. just wanted to comment on the secondary. nasty. we held the #1 passing offense to 76yrds., and macklin wasn't even active. we constantly brought pressure and didn't even apply the blitz too often if at all.(memory a little fuzzy due to well, you know, alcohol the defense allowed a measely 144 total yards to a ferocious offense. anyone thinking the giants game could possibly be a fluke?,even though they don't look too shabby right now. if we continue to apply and execute the playcalling we did sunday, we stand a good chance. green bay will be tough, but they can be beat. stay positive and go skins.

Re: Where Was Calvin Johnson?
i think i was one of the first to post landry should be our first pick. after his combine and seeing those numbers compared to what he did at lsu...you just knew this guy was a stud...i love him and so glad we went defense and went secondary too. showing pretty good right now isnt it. i am telling you a back 7 is where its at, it allows for the front 4 to be more creative and less responsible for things....loved the pick, love landry.

Re: Where Was Calvin Johnson?
CJ's been fine, wrs don't usually go off their first season, but he's done well.
i liked bowe as the 2nd best wr, and he was a great value. okoye and carriker in a trade down seemed like good ideas at the time, and still are... we still could use another wr and a de, and either could be a better sum total (w/ prioleau or stoutmire at s) than landry with what we've got. overall we're not doing too bad, and our young guys are getting big minutes, which is always nice. |

Re: Where Was Calvin Johnson?
C'mon. Landry didn't singlehandedly win the game for us. It would have been tied except McNabb missed a wide open wr at the goalline.

Re: Where Was Calvin Johnson?
I wanted Okoye BAD!!! And Im still a little disappointed we didn't get him. He already has four sacks in his first five games and he's like what 19? He could have been a beast for us for a long time.
Don't get me wrong, Landry is a beast, and the best pick we could have made given the circumstances. He is the better player, and he and ST make the best Saftey Tandem in the league, but if someone were willing to trade up, and we could have gotten Okoye, AND some more young talent, I would have been much happier, but no complaints really, Im really excited to watch ST and Landry develop together. |

Re: Where Was Calvin Johnson?
Point is he hasn't come right in and revolutionized the game as we were promised we would by the talking heads. Not that he's a bust, far from it. Just not worth the 2nd.

I'm just saying Landry was the very best pick to improve our D as a unit IMO. |

Landry is doing what is expected of him in his rookie year, and it IS allowing Taylor to contribute in other ways he couldn't last year. But at some point, someone is going to have to fix the gaping hole in deep pass coverage. Eventually teams are going to figure out that you can't hit the holes in the Redskins zone defense because Taylor is too aggressive and that the way to beat us is to be patient, and throw it deep late. Not that Okoye could have done much about this, but the pressure up the middle he would have provided could have been invaluable. In any case, Landry will do his job for us for a long time and we will probably remain relatively strong on defense for a long time.

Now that the nature of the deep pass, you can't always complete it even when its open. That doesn't excuse Taylor's angles to the ball, which are always an adventure to say the least.
