when you sign your contract you are giving your word legally you will honor it.if you are any type of man you honor that respectfully.i'm sorry your word is your bond i do not care if you are wealthy or homeless.if he had any sense at all or any honor,he would protest in a respectful way not like a spoiled child.

If Ty Law has been treated poorly by NE, I don't see any problem with him sitting out. If he is greedy and is only after more money, then I have no patience for that. As for you guys who are saying that its ok for a player to sit out because the teams can cut you at anytime, you should read a contract. I'm sure that there are stipulations in it that explicitly say when and why a player can be cut. There are NO stipulations in it that say a player can sit (without forfeiting a pay check).

They should play thier contract's out because of a speacilty in the contract, it's called a signing bonus, they seem to forget all about the upfront money and only look at what's left on thier contract, and that is a big part of the contract, the player get's a guarenteed bonus up front and the team get's a more managable cap friendly contract down the road, as far as his performance you don't think that the rest of the team has a hand in his success? learning form belichik as well as parcell's and playing in thier defensive schemes had a lot to do with his success, we saw first hand this year what bad coaching can do to a player's success, it can really keep a player down if the coach doesn't use him properly, law has also said he doesn't know how he could play again for the patriots. although he didn't say he wouldn't he is trying real hard to force his way into a new contract some how or some way. |

First of all, what's all the talk about him sitting out. He said he want's out of the orginization, but he clearly states he WILL PLAY OUT THE REST OF HIS CONTRACT. The signing bonus point is good, but in the long run would save NE money to cut him, and he even offered to buy it out. Which to me says how much he really no longer wants to be in NE.
I don't think a player of Law's stature should have to take a paycut after he had an incrediable season and took them to a Super Bowl. He's not happy within the orginization and ASKED to be let out. Is he demanding anything? Is he going to sit out? As far as I'm concerned with all the trades/cuts going on, why not ask. You might just get your wish. Sure he can stay on the Pats pay roll for two years making a shitload of money and not restructure or want to be there. Or they could trade him for another player and picks (I hear Seattle is willing to let Alexander go for a CB) and I bet you they use 1 of the 1st rounders on a CB. |

Stop with the greed. It's an insult.
I'm paying you 30,000 dollars a year, and it's time for your yearly review. You've been an excellent part of my company and you've really helped us do a lot here! I'm prepared to offer you 18,000 dollars a year now. You've done so well you've earned a paycut. Congratulations. Listen, none of us would EVER take that in our real lives, why should these guys? Granted the numbers are quite a bit higher, but if you were in his position you'd do the same damn thing. You want to give me a fraction of my previous salary, even though I had a pro-bowl callibre year? Don't even lie and say that wouldn't piss you off, especially if you weren't exactly happy with the company. You'd go shopping. Contracts in the NFL are meant to be broke. Mainly by owners, but I see absolutly no problem in a player asking to be released. If I were an owner I'd like to know who doesn't want to be there. I'd try to work it out with the player, but if I couldn't I'd probably release them. Simply because you want people who want to be there. Anyhow, I think Ty Law wants to make money (who can blame them, I don't see anyone crucifying LaVar after his outrageous contract, he's just trying to get his, right?) |

Even if you could make 30 million else where? I seriously doubt you'd take a 10 million paycut before you'd take a 10 million raise.
