Redskins have the worst defensive line in the league
So says Scouts Inc.
Link: http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/insid...ory?id=2935257 32. Washington Redskins Six-year veteran Andre Carter is the most solid player on the defensive line. He has been surrounded by underachievers and aging athletes. Carter has excellent quickness off the edge but has never been a physical player versus the run. Phillip Daniels is on the backside of his career and does not have much playmaking ability. Backup ends Demetric Evans and Renaldo Wynn have shown little playmaking ability throughout their careers. Defensive tackles Cornelius Griffin underachieved in 2006 and has been an inconsistent performer much of his career. Rookie sixth-round pick Kedric Golston and backup Joe Salave'a play hard but don't have the tools to be impact players. The Redskins didn't address the defensive line deficiencies in the 2007 draft. Instead they tried to plug holes with veteran retreads. |

Re: Redskins have the worst defensive line in the league
It's hard to argue with that analysis, honestly. I disagree because I think the whole defense will pick it up this year and everyone will start playing better, but can anyone really argue with the points he makes here? If so, I'd love to hear it.

He bases his arguments of 2006 performances, when 75% of the line was injured or playing hurt. Seems to me that 2-3 years ago, we had a very promising D-Line (everyone was healthy). No one can argue that our pass rush sucked last year - but don't forget that our DB situation is much, much improved with serious depth: Springs, Smoot, Rogers, Maklin & Butler at CB and Taylor, Landry, Prioleau & Stoutmire at Safety. And don't forget the ever-versatile ADE at both! Seriously, you can't tell me that the improved coverage won't lead to more time for our DE's to get to the Quarterback. IMO, if you want to improve pass rush, you can attack it from two persectives, better rushers or better coverage - the Skins went coverage. D-Line is surely not the strength of our team, but we've got some promising young DT's and enough talent at DE to be effective with our improved DB coverage. |

Yawn. Let them all keep talking. If are D can play as one unit then hopefully are secondary will help solve this problem like they have under G.W up until last year. All I can say is the season can’t come soon enough so we can start some people.

Re: Redskins have the worst defensive line in the league
Figured that was going to happen. No arguments from me on that ranking. Until they prove otherwise on the field they deserve that. I hope it ends up in every DL's welcome to training camp package from GW.

Re: Redskins have the worst defensive line in the league
Injuries, injuries, injuries. I suppose I have more faith in the DL than scouts Inc. Griffin is a stud and if he stays health that line will be rock solid. I'd be disappointed if we aren't in the top 10 defense this upcoming season.

Re: Redskins have the worst defensive line in the league
My problem is that I don't believe he or Springs are going to stay healthy for many games again this year. I have 0 faith in him now. Call it bad luck if you want, but he's been injury prone every year. He's got to be a difference maker if the D line is going to be any good this year.

The cap experts were right, but not for the reasons they thought they were. This team is old, and financially dependant on those old guys. Not capped out as everyone thought they would be (of course, next year, we'll be both). |

Re: Redskins have the worst defensive line in the league
I have to laugh when people try to defend our defensive line by what they did 2-3 years ago.
I'm through bitching about it though. Hopefully I'm wrong and Griffin, Wynn, Daniels and Salave'a have stumbled upon the Fountain of Youth sometime during the offseason. That's the only thing we can hope for at this point. |

Re: Redskins have the worst defensive line in the league
This analysis is most likely correct, but very simplistic in its nature. I don't think I learned anything I didn't already know from reading this report.
