Re: RB's are worried in Washington

You usually don't find all that much wisdom over there at ES, but that was an exception, a really good post.

Gibbs has always said he'll do whatever it takes to improve the team. He'll trade away draft picks, demote himself from playcalling, and cut underperforming fan favorites.

All in the interests of getting better as a team.

Re: RB's are worried in Washington

Bottom line is that Duckett makes this team better. Why would Rock and Ladell complain if they were secure in their roles and were really stepping up? Do your job, get after it, TAKE THE POSITION AND MAKE IT YOUR OWN!!! I agree with the ES poster here. Duckett was a NEED. When he is bulldozing his way in from the 6 yard line, everyone here will be cheering him on. I hope he wears #39!

They should cut the price of Diesel fuel in half for DC residents to comemorate this trade for today.

Yeah if you can wade through all the fair-weather bandwagoners. There are a few posters that I look for in general. The rest is usually a steaming turd.

He was a #2 back in ATL, but better than our backups

He was the #2 RB in ATL, he comes here and is known to be much better than our #2 and 3 RBs. That says we didn't have much behind portis.

Well boo fricken hoo, betts and rock, our backups are upset because they are deeper BACKups...possibly bad for team chemistry and this and that...blah blah blah. Betts and Rock are upset because we brought in a #2 back from another team and they know he is better than them. They know this means thier mediocre talent is going to be sent to another team or burried deep in the depth chart only to come out sparringly.

The only chemistry it hurts is how content Betts and Rock were with being handed #2 and 3 in the depth chart because the young guys couldn't stop screwing up. Its not that Betts and Rock did that well in camp/over the years, its that the new folks/other folks did that horrible. Is there a team in the league that Rock could contend for the starting job? Betts is better, and though there may be a few teams that he could compete for the starting job it would be far from a sure thing, he would have to do WELL.

Betts and Rock were content knowing they aren't that good but they will be on the roster and get playing time because they were it behind portis and we had nothing else.

Re: RB's are worried in Washington

O yeah, and portis wasn't exactly happy about it. He is quoted as saying that he's a big tough back thats a bruiser as well as being fast, that he's a complete back.

There is a difference between being 205-210 and willing to hit as hard as you can, and having the balance to take shots and fight for yards....and being 50 pounds heavier at 255 and knowing when you take a shot you can fight a few yards, AND have your momentum give you a few more yards. Portis impressed the hell outta me last year with his willingness and ability to be physical, but size is size. Heart (and Portis has more than most in the NFL) and will are what make Portis SO good after contact, but it just can't make up for the bulk TJ brings.

Besides, once Portis realizes he'll be getting 20+ carries a game, that TJ will be getting 10 or so, that TJ's carries will make his carries more effective(affective?), that he can be 100% in the 4th because he's had help beating on the other team's defense, and that TJ will only help him get better stats(and I seriously doubt fewer TDs), Portis will be happy to have TJ in D.C.

I think...
-portis will NOT lose any TD's because of TJ compared to last year
-because we score MANY more TDs this year
-many of those risky goal line passes to big recievers will go to TJ instead of recievers, not taking from portis
-portis will have more TDs and will be in there plenty near the goal line this year, it won't be ONLY TJ ON THE FIELD WHEN INSIDE THE 10yd LINE.

i'm done with other RB reactions now. Basically, 2 were upset because they know they weren't good enough but were given the 2 and 3 positions because there was no one else and that portis was upset because he didn't want to lose TDs coming from short and goal situations. Portis will be happy with TJ, I for one don't care how Betts and Rock cope with TJ coming to town. They need to fight for their spots, not get it by default.

***the past 2 posts are my opinion, I will discuss opinion/point of view questions/comments that are opposite my own, but will not discuss posts/comments made as if the posters opinion is fact and other opinions are wrong. I read this forum daily (hardly ever post) and constantly see folks ripping other folks because of opinions. Numbers from last year and that type of thing can be wrong, but what someone thinks will happen is not wrong, and they should not be talked down to/insulted because of their thoughts/opinions.***

geez...I always start out with one thought I want to post real quick and end up with a fricken essay. WAY too many thoughts/words from a mind as shallow as mine.

Re: RB's are worried in Washington

portis is the guy that wanted edge to come to DC and also stated he's fine with getting 10 carries a game. so why's he bitching now? right now he's hurt and the ground game sucks, and that's that.

seriously. duckett >>>>>>> betts. I still don't see the logic behind a 3rd rounder for a rent-a-player, but the talent is there.

I agree about the 3 rounder for 1 year...Makes me wonder if gibbs and crew plan on putting the charm on Duck and buttering him up to sign a new deal/extension before the season starts/early in the season this year.

The other thing I wonder about is if they've already spoken with Duck's agent/Duck about what he wants in the future and plan on him being here for a while even though the current contract runs out soon.

Or they could expect that since the skins have great locker room chemistry, the best fans in the world, and are going to win the super bowl this year that he won't be able to help himself and will have to be a skin as long as they want him.

Or...

Re: RB's are worried in Washington

Betts has been hurt this year, correction, every year. As much as Rock gets hyped on this site the coaches know that he is not a solution. Rock and Betts have had plenty of chances to win over the coaches and I don't think that either one of them has proven that the team can count on them for a long period of time. If they don't like the trade then step up and prove the coaches wrong.
