Re: RB's are worried in Washington
If we didn't have glaring holes, we get rid of Rock. Since we do, we trade Betts.

Re: RB's are worried in Washington
There isnt a hole on this team. We would basically look at a backup I think would have to come at the Oline somewhere.
We also have to assume that it will take time for TJ to get acclimated to the system but if he is going to be used for short yardage anyway then he could get by. This is why I think Betts will get traded for a draft pick anywhere from now till the deadline. Only way we shop Betts now is if the players become disgruntled, a team comes to us with a good offer of OL, or another injury takes place. But until CP is better I dont think we can get rid of Betts. The run game should always be priority 1.

Re: RB's are worried in Washington
However good Betts is we have no idea if another team is interested in him for trade. We might be looking at Cartwright getting cut. Looking at it objectively this isn't terrible for the skins. Perhaps Nemo or Lumsden has shown enough to contribute to special teams the way Rock did. No one is irreplaceable. Betts might have staying power, though, with his KR abilities. You can't just give that duty to anybody.
By the way, i wrote this after drinking four pitchers of beer at Hooters for the first time in like 4 years. Tell me if I make any sense.

Re: RB's are worried in Washington
Skins will keep Betts because he knows the system and he can play well when called upon. I hope Duckett quietly meshes with the other RBs. Winning builds team unity, and the key will be a fast start to the season, either 3-1 or 4-0.

Re: RB's are worried in Washington
Rock's comment bothers me a little but we'll see how much he meant it when he plays next. He's allowed an emotional response immediately following the news but he better get on Gibbs bus.

Re: RB's are worried in Washington
Prediction: The Redskins will keep all backs, evaluate Betts and TJ at the end of the season. Whoever wants the most money or least productive is allowed to walk.

Rock will be kept for teams, Duckett for goal lines, and Betts for workhorse insurance on Portis.

Re: RB's are worried in Washington
This is a post from Extremems Skins. Best post I've read yet about the RB's.
I hope the mods forgive me for starting another thread discussing the Duckett trade, but this thread isn't about the trade itself as much as the staff that made it and why they did. As fans, we identify with players. We root for our favorite players, we buy their jerseys, and we name ourselves after them on websites like ES. Fans love underdogs. I always identify with underdogs and pull for them. When roster moves affect our favorite players, we take it personally. The players of course take it personally, and we identify with the players, so we take it personally too. When Ramsey got benched for Brunell, we groaned. Many extremers took it much further than that, calling Gibbs a liar, and saying that Ramsey got screwed. Ramsey was hugely popular in here. He was a class act, he was an underdog that we all pulled for. Uhfortunately though, he didn't perform and struggled with the mental aspects of the game, and Gibbs saw it. Gibbs went with his well honed instincts and it paid off. Ramsey meanwhile is with the Jets, and he's still not performing. Fast forward a year, and more of the same type of roster moves are happening. Williams and Gibbs sent Lavar on his way, and once again extreme skins was divided. Lavar was never really an underdog, but he was definitely another fan favorite. Lavar goes to New York, and he still can't stay on the field. Chris Clemons gets hurt again, and he's cut. Clemons was another fan favorite and an underdog. Chris also couldn't stay on the field though and now he's gone. Betts is another guy us fans have been pulling for, but like Clemons and Lavar, he hasn't been able to stay on the field. See a pattern here? Going back a couple of weeks, after Clemons got cut, Williams said in an interview with the Post, "There are two 'As' you have to have if you want to play for me: accountability and availability. Chris suffered from the second one. He was never able to stay on the field." Take a minute and let that quote sink in b/c it really states what this staff is all about. If you want to play for the Skins, you have to perform, and you have to be able to stay healthy, it doesn't matter who you are, how much you are paid, or when you were drafted. No look at the preseason. The mediots have been predicting a Superbowl run for the Skins, and they come out flat in the preseason, and put in a very poor effort against the Jets. The team turns to Betts and Rock for a spark and really get nothing. Maybe the blocking in front of them wasn't great, but neither guy looked like they were running hard to me. After the game, Gibbs was so mad he didn't even wait for the media to be ready be to send a message to the team, saying, "I thought we would get a great effort and play extremely hard," Gibbs said in explaining his anger Saturday night. "We're coming home and I talked about it, and we play a game like that. So it does a number of things to you. You get upset about it and you get concerned about it, too, because there's no reason why you shouldn't play well there." No doubt about it, Gibbs was pissed. Gibbs goes out and gets himself a classic bruiser in Duckett. He says he's a great locker room and we'll just put him in there and see how it turns out. Message to Betts and Rock: you boys better step the hell up or you're gone. Betts says he doesn't understand, and Rock calls it a slap in the face. Sorry, but you've got it backwards guys, as do many fans who identify with you. You have to perform and stay healthy to be on this team. Gibbs is committed to winning. If his players can't deliver, he'll bring in players that can. Gibbs and his staff mean business, it's as simple as that. |

Were you being sarcastic? We have agreed on a few things the last couple of days Joe ....but we had some great teams in the 80s and a 1991-92 superbowl team that was lights out. honestly I think that team of 1991 was the most dominant I have seen ( I'm only 28 so I was very young for the '82 to remember ). The 1991 team defense took how many games for someone to score on us? The Offense was so dominant as well. I don't know what cam over Mark Rypien that year but he was as great a quaterback as we could as for. We never saw itr again, but he was great for one year. Anyway just my two cents. I know I'm way off topic as well.
