Re: Another Reason to Hate Dr. Z/Like Dan Snyder

As much as I am concerned about Brunell being able to stay healthy, as well as be productive, regardless this offense is going to be a 1000 times better than it has been in 4 years, A prediction contrary to that shows just how uterly, ridiculously ignorant many of these sports writers are, yea I am to believe that Gibbs with another year under his belt to get reaclamated now combined with Saunders will go backwards? We have everyone right where we want them, underestimating us, it will come down to Brunell to whether or not we end up in the SB, everything else is in place barring injuries.

Outbursts like that from Danny are the reason that so many sports writers dislike the Redskins. He should have just waived and been on his way. However clueless they may be Z & King are paid to give their opinions and thinking the Redskins will go 5-11 is not a crime it's just a bad opinion. Snyder should rise above these guys and not give them more relevance then they deserve by calling them out in public. I am not Snyder bashing either and I don't like those SI guys I just think Dan should be the bigger man sometimes.

i like it when they hate us because that just makes them predict us to do bad and then we get to prove them wrong

Try to keep in mind that you read this from Z's perspective so he's going overdramatize the encounter for literary effect.

There are a lot of bad prognosticators in this world, but Dr. Z takes the cake by a significant margin.

Seriously, I can't wait until Matty heads or tails this biatch.

Yes, maybe so...but he must have said something for Z to mention it in his column. I would prefer he smile and say nothing...

I tend to agree with this line of thinking.

If he doesn't want sports writers hating on him, then don't give them any fuel for their fire.

Sit back, shut up and just write the checks.

Guys like King and Zzzzzz are still dopes, but leave the trash talking for the fans. It's what we do best!

Re: Another Reason to Hate Dr. Z/Like Dan Snyder

Not a huge "Z" fan, for a couple of reasons.

As you can see here, Dr. Z is on the Hall of Fame voting committee, as the offcial representative of the New York Jets. (Each team has a representative from its media market, presumably to act as a water-bearer for the local teams' interests.) While he covered football for the New York Post (and other NY publications) before joining Sports Illustrated, he joined SI in 1979. That's 27 years since he was a Jets beat reporter, or a columnist that focused on the Jets (or even the New York Sports scene). I suppose there isn't enough of a media presence in New York to find someone more appropriate.

He's also been the source of some of the most outrageous anti-Art Monk quotes ever.
Quote:
SI.COM: How about Art Monk?

Dr. Z: Monk was hurt by Michael Irvin being eligible this year. It's done alphabetically, and Irvin was presented before Monk. I think that really hurt him.
Quote:
You DON'T get into the Hall of Fame catching 800 eight-yard hooks.
Quote:
Art Monk is another four-timer. A great possession receiver. Caught a lot of balls in Joe Gibbs' system. Every time I mention that I didn't vote for him because I simply felt that other people were more deserving than a guy who caught 900 eight-yard hooks, I wake up all the Washington diehards, who start screaming about my anti-Redskins bias. Start stirring, you folk out there. It will happen again.
Quote:
Catching 800 eight-yard hooks does not make a Hall of Famer, which is the same reply I’ve given your two or three other correspondences … you remember, the ones you wrote on toilet paper in crayon.
The Art Monk Hall of Fame Website lists nearly every mention from Zimmerman of Monk, both when he was playing and not. Of note would be this review of the 1991 NFC Championship game (emphasis mine):
Quote:
The Washington offense was typical Joe Gibbs: Set ‘em up with one thing, hit ‘em with another. He’ll use the thunder of the heavy running game behind two or three tight ends, then the deep strike from quarterback Mark Rypien — 45 yards to Gary Clark, 31 to Art Monk, a 21-yard TD to Monk, 45 yards to Terry Orr. That last one left the fans smiling.

Re: Another Reason to Hate Dr. Z/Like Dan Snyder

Such a lame cop-out... 900 8-yard hooks.

Monk's lifetime yards per catch is 13.5.

Let's at least hit on some facts Dr. Z.

Re: Another Reason to Hate Dr. Z/Like Dan Snyder

Dr. Z sounded upset. What did he expect from Snyder? Sound a lot like he goes with the crowd and he likes to do all the calling out himself. What a prick.

This means that Monk's other 40 catches would have had to average 138 yards. It's possible...Did Art Monk play in an era with experimental field dimensions?

Isn't the fact that he caught 900+ passes of any kind very impressive? I mean how many other people could be counted on so consistantly?

Apparently catching 900 hooks is easy and anyone can do it. I'd love to see his ass out there on the field.
