Redskins: Memory Makers for Me
I stumbled upon some old photos as I was moving some stuff around and there were a handful of pictures I had not seen in a long time. My son Elijah and I have been Skins fans all of his life and spent many, many hours watching and going to games.
This last month he turned 18 and will soon be off to college and these pictures are a TREASURE to me now. If you missed it Elijah and I met up with JoeRedskin, Joecrisp [and BEAUTIFUL G/F] and Summo for Draft Day 2004 and did I mention I shook the Coach's hand and we were in the Washington Post? lol My wife is sick of that story but here is a picture of Elijah as he looks these days. http://www.nagshead.net/draftday/P1010022.jpg The Whole day is here: http://www.nagshead.net/draftday/ One image I have is of say 5 year old Elijah standing outside RFK where they use to keep RUDY the REDSKIN HOG who until he died lived just down the road from my house. As you can see like a good Dad I had him all dressed in Burgundy & Gold from head to foot. http://www.nagshead.net/elijah/rudy.jpg We went to the Minnesota game in December and so I dressed him as warm as I could and took a bag with wool blankets, down footies. In this picture Elijah has on all his clothes, both blankets wrapped around him, standing in the bag and wearing MY COAT.....but he never complained or asked to leave early. THAT'S My Boy! http://www.nagshead.net/elijah/snowgame.jpg This last picture is funny as I had him put on my autographed Sammy Baugh Helmet and he just looks like a goof. hahahaha http://www.nagshead.net/elijah/sammyhelmet.jpg I just wanted to share a few memories of how much enjoyment and part of my memories the Redskins have been. My guess is many of you have great times like these to think back on. peace mike

Great pics and stories, thanks for sharing. They sure do grow up fast, huh?
I've got a two year old I plan to raise a skins fan too even though I'm in Florida. I think as skins parents, it's our duty!!! |

Great pics, SBF! My wife appreciates the complement, as well.
We had a blast getting to meet you guys at the draft day party, and hanging out for a while. Looking forward to more Warpath get-togethers in the future. I'd like to get up to your Skins-'Boys party, but I'll probably need to take the next day off, if you know what I mean! :cool-smil Not sure if the wife would like that too much! Hopefully, we can all get together at training camp. |

Great stuff, Sammy-fan.
I had one of those skins winter caps with the pompom, too. They should bring those back. And man, do I miss RFK. That place used to SHAKE!

great stuff SBF thanks for sharing!
I love the one of your son decked out in the old school Skins gear. Kinda reminds me of myself, it's funny to look back at old pics of when I was a kid, it seemed like I always had something Redskins on. |

Great Pics SBF!
Great Pics, great stories!
My only trip for a game was to a Skins/Cards game at RFK at no cost since I had waited 6 hours for free tickets at a car dealership. My buddy and I had subs my wife had made for the free bus to DC. I saw M. Westbrook take an End-around, and come running our way! Very memorable! The place rocked! If It's a Sunday, I usually catch a nap while watching. I guess the anticipation is bigger than the game, for me at my age!

By the way, SBF, do you think five years old is about right for taking your son to a game? I want to take Jack (probably to a preseason game, for weather and stress reasons ), but I'd hate to get there and turn around as soon as we get in the stadium.

Hey Brud -
take your two your old son to a game this year if you can. We took my two year old daughter to see the Tampa Bay Lightening on their playoff run to win the Stanley Cup last month and she loved it. She would yell and clap when the crowd got loud, it was hilarious. I was worried about the crowd noise getting to her too, but like I said, she had a great time for all 3 hours! We've got tickets to go see the Devil Rays v. Red Sox baseball in early August and we're gonna take a weekend trip to see our beloved Skins v. Dolphins in late August in Miami. It's funny because at that age they seem to follow whatever mom and dad do. For example, if my wife and I are watching tv and we start laughing about something, our daughter will bust out laughing too, she doesn't know why, she just follows us. So if you've got your son singing "hail the the Redskins" already, your ahead of the game! He'll have a good time at a game now! |

If yer boy is behaved enough to take out to dinner...and he likes Football 5 is a fine age to take a young lad to a game. Elijah was 5 when I started taking him and look at how much fun and "understanding" he had. To this day he remembers thos games and they are a treasure to him. Take the lad and have a great "memory" to look back on peace
