Scot McCloughan is NFL's best talent scout, self-employed and living on a farm. That's a link to a detailed article in ESPN The Magazine about McCloughan.....

It seems that nobody can be successful in this organization but time will tell. I think its a good hire but then again I thought Allen was a good hire.

I think once McC takes the reigns we are going to see a complete roster rebuild and more transactions this year than expected.

Where before I think players like Reily, Garcon, Lauvo were "safe"...yeah, not so much any more.

The irony is that the fact that he signed with the Redskins makes you have to question whether his decision making skills are strong enough to turn the Redskins around.

This time things will be different though. Really, this time things will change. Just kidding. What's the over/under in years before the threat "Fire McCloughan" thread is posted on the Warpath?

Imagine the gratification of turning an org. Like this around. Imagine having that on your resume...
Cautiously optimistic...feels good to have hope.............but that's the same exact thing I say every year. Remember when we we're all saying "well, looks like we got that qb spot shored up." or "adding Hatcher should ensure a pass rush so good we won't have to worry about our secondary."
I hope it works out and we start to see some long term solutions, but I'm staring at the kool aid on the table, wondering what Dan has put in it....

Re: Scot McCloughan to be new Redskins GM

Our organization has been a cluster but wouldn't you say that the biggest reason it's been a cluster is because of a lack of quality talent evaluators?

We had Vinny supporting Gibbs, we had Vinny running the show with Zorn, we had Allen supporting Shanahan, and now just Allen.

Giving Gibbs and Shanahan full control was a fine decision but they don't have time to do all that work themselves. They needed strong scouts supporting and making recommendations and they didn't have it.

So if you're McCloughan, don't you have to love the situation you're stepping into? You have an owner willing to spend a lot on players. You have a coach who's not going to try to wrestle power away from you. You have a team president who understands his shortcomings here and will allow you to do your job. If I'm McCloughan, I view myself as the missing piece of the puzzle in Washington. It's actually a good situation.

That said, we're so dreadfully lacking in talent right now that it's going to take some time for him to turn things around. That, and we have no idea if we have a QB or not.

It's an uphill battle but if I'm McC I'd much rather work for the Skins than the Raiders or Jets or whoever.

To piggy back this idea, I think if you McC this is also his redemption. It perfect for the challenge he wants and needs. He wants a complete rebuild, this is the situation where he thrived previously.

Look at San Fran...they are crumbling now.

Still trying to figure out why Garcon wouldn't be safe.

cap number, he became the no 2 by a good margin, had the new guy easily out pace his numbers and importance on the field, Shanny pick not Jay, new regime in FO

One thing working in his favor is the play of Andre Roberts

Getting rid of Garcon would be stupid. Beyond stupid.

I dont know if its that bad in a total rebuild mode, but I wouldnt be in favor of losing him at this time.

Re: Scot McCloughan to be new Redskins GM

Garcon's not going anywhere because the McCloughan hire is a clear pivot towards the draft as the source of talent for this team. And since they have $20M in cap space for free agents already, and because they won't be looking to free agency for a huge talent bonanza, they won't feel the pressure to clear additional cap space by cutting Garcon.

He's very safe.
