I just see this as an opportunity for him to develop his game and increase his skill set, and will feel more reassured with progress in reading D's quickly than in his running game.

RGIII is our QB now and hopefully for many years to come. He needs the work he gets in games to develop into one of the top few QB's in the NFL. If he were not well enough to play, then he wouldn't be on the field.

Also, with the way the Redskins played so poorly on defense against Philly and GB, it is very doubtful that Cousins could have made any difference in the outcome of those games. In the Detroit game, we were one dropped pass away from a win.
Cousins looked better last season than Griffin has so far.

Yes I want Griffin to be our franchise QB for the next decade or so. Let him get his work in practice and exercise until he can take the knee brace off and plant during throws and run like he did when healthy last season.

The Eagles game would have been different so who really knows, but Cousins probably would have passed better, and with fewer turnovers, so we would have had a better chance of winning a great comeback game. I mean, cmon Griffin was throwing off his back leg most of the time.

The Packers game, yeah our O wasn't going to keep up with what our D was giving up.

The Lions game, we win that game with Cousins passing, especially with two games under HIS belt at that point. Raiders game ditto.

I feel like we tanked the first quarter of this season, for the privilege of putting our franchise QB out there hurt to see if he gets knocked out for the season. Thankfully that hasn't happened, but I think we threw away a win or two just to put RG3 on the field for pride's sake.

I think the only game we played that was winnable with Cousins at quarterback was Oakland, which was a win anyway.

Re: We won!!!!!!!!!! (Redskins vs. Raiders Post Game Thread)

Regarding the O-Line: GB, Det, and Oakland all have really active fronts that have given them some issues. Getting into the meat of the NFC East should help our OL look a bit better.

I think Chester may be fighting the knee that gave him some issues at the end of last year. No inside information on that, just speculation based on a lack of observable quickness.

Other than that, we're into year three of the "Will Montgomery and Tyler Polumbus get uncontested starting jobs" which is more of a potential issue in the future than an explanation for a slow start by the OL. Trent and Kory have played very well this year, although Trent is capable of playing even better than he has.

Most of the pass protection breakdowns have come from the backs this season. Not the OL.

Re: We won!!!!!!!!!! (Redskins vs. Raiders Post Game Thread)

Four game stretch where everyone questions if Griffin can win with this team just happens to be the same level of performance of the best four game stretch of Ryan Tannehill's career.

Which is not to say that Griffin hasn't been a disappointment this year. If you told me at the beginning of the year, that Griffin and Tannehill would be virtual equals on the field over the month of September, I would have been disappointed. We could have gotten that level of performance and kept two first rounders and a second.

But it's just four games, and there's at least a chance this will be the weakest four game stretch of RG3's season.

Really like what I see from Tannehill. He's not all jittery in the pocket, he stands in there and let's thing play out, and throws a hard accurate ball. Looks like Phillip Rivers with a bigger arm and way better mobility. He just needs more games under his belt.

Tannehill has been about what I expected him to be in the pros. Good enough to make you look elsewhere to improve your team, for a while. No major issues in his game, a couple minor critical flaws. He has no deep ball, but he compensates that by being an above average runner.

He's a bit of a ball holder in the pocket, but he doesn't compound the problem by being sloppy with the football. And the crappiness of the Dolphins OTs makes the problem look worse than it is.

His upside is almost perfectly average, which is fine. With the 8th pick, you're hoping for more. Rivers isn't a bad comparison, but I think Rivers was a lot better at the same point in his career as a starter.

Re: We won!!!!!!!!!! (Redskins vs. Raiders Post Game Thread)

Want to say something nice about our sometimes maligned offensive line, that this group is very well prepared to play football every week. It's not the most talented group or dominant group up front, but they get pretty good marks for their awareness and rarely get surprised by a pressure package. It's a great group to develop a young quarterback behind.

Normally, we'd call those things good coaching (and it is), but I don't want to go straight to coaching and sell the actual players short. This is a smart group.

I say this now because I can see some of the lineman getting banged up and missing time and then having to play LeRibeus or Compton later in the year, and the things I mentioned above becoming an issue.

Re: We won!!!!!!!!!! (Redskins vs. Raiders Post Game Thread)

Finally, it took three weeks for Amerson to develop into our top cover corner. For the most part, the guy just destroyed Denarius Moore on the press. Best man to man guy we have and probably zone as well, simply because there's more of him (length) than either Hall or Wilson.

Of course, he was pressing Moore on the play he got beaten on a vertical, so he's still got some work to do.

He's done incredibly well for a second round pick at a position that typically takes a long time to develop.

Re: We won!!!!!!!!!! (Redskins vs. Raiders Post Game Thread)

I lied, one more game observation:

Maybe this is just through pure repetition, but the passing game is better in 2013 than it was in 2012. Hankerson is open on almost every route he runs. Garcon is quicker than he was last year. Griffin uses the pocket a lot more effectively. The ball is coming out on time to the open man more often.

I'm not ready to announce that the offense is back and fixed: there are still some role guys who aren't performing like last year: Paulsen and Young at the top of the list. But there are a number of things they're doing well this year that they weren't doing well last year. And I think the Redskins are close to their 2012 offensive levels, even though there isn't any chance they'll lead the NFL in rushing this year. The passing game appears ready to pick up the slack.

Just have to catch the football.

Rivers developed some bad habits but that was fully based on the fact his team was horrible. O line injured and depleted, no receivers and no one to throw to. Gates been injured for 3 years, v jax gone, tomalison gone, sproles gone, etc. so what happens if you force throws and try to do too much. Rivers is a hell of a qb, but like most qb u can't do it alone.

Do you mean backs and TEs?

Leading the league in fumbles is not sloppy with the ball?

Yes, although the TE's haven't been asked to pass block almost at all because the line has been solid on it's assignments. Sometimes the interior guys will get overwhelmed at the point of attack, but keeping a TE in isn't going to change that.

The TE's have struggled on the edge in the running game, and just generally speaking in the passing game. We've gotten almost no return from the position this year, except a couple of quality snaps from Jordan Reed against Green Bay.

It is, but I'm including last year's performance as well. I think Tannehill is pretty good with what is generally the worst pass protection in the league, although the whole state of Florida is brutal at protecting the QB.

You're right that 6 fumbles is a lot in 4 games. Something to keep an eye on.
