Didn't want to start a thread but good salary cap news
@MarkMaske: Cofield agreed to reduce his salary from $4.05 million to the minimum $840,000, receiving the remaining $3.21 million in bonus money. |

Re: Redskins Cuts
Well that's good news in case of an emergency. I can't see it being something they use now and whatever money isn't used rolls into 2014 cap dollars.

Re: Redskins Cuts
Wow. I wouldn't do that if I was Cofield (because who are we getting on our roster that would require about $3 million in cap space, plus I think he already reduced his salary once), but good for him.

Re: Redskins Cuts
why not get it up front and guaranteed? his contract isn't big enough (and he's played well enough) that it's not like it's going to force the skins to cut him over this.

Re: Redskins Cuts
It is basically emergency money for the season barring injury.

Re: Redskins Cuts
2 things I heard on a radio interview today I hadnt thought of
1.They probably kept White to simulate Vick in preparation for the Eagles 2.If he's on the active roster for the first game his salary for the year is guaranteed so he might be cut as soon as Sunday before Eagles game

I also think they like to reward guys who work hard and get better. Helps players appreciate the staff. Notice we signed only players from our own camp to the PS. |

Good thinking...I had never considered that. He could simulate Vick in practice. Other possible explanations: *We're keeping him to bolster trade value. A player who makes a team may hold more perceived value than one who was cut. *Would we actually use him in the backfield or at receiver alongside RGIII? *Kirk's injury is actually serious enough to prevent him from playing early in the season. We keep White rostered AND active on gamedays in case Griffin needs to come out. We keep Grossman inactive like last season. If White needs to step in for a play or two or God forbid the rest of a game, we won't have to switch offensive scheme mid-game...just hands. When Kirk is 100%, he's gone. *We're planning on trading Kirk sooner than later and we want a backup who can run the read-option. As mentioned, White becomes the in-game replacement and Grossman would be the "next-week" substitute. *We're holding him for the sole reason of keeping Philly from using him in practice since he knows our offense. We cut him Tuesday morning.
