Re: Thread Series: The case for/against Tyrann Mathieu
Third or Fourth Round, Like Mike Mayock said from NFL Network, Redskins should not take him until the end of the third or risk taking him in the fourth.
Great instincts, even though I do not see him as a safety because I think he maxed out his frame at 186 and if he tries to build more muscle he won't have much flexibility, just be a worst Laron Landry. But as your 3rd or 4th corner/punt returner, he is worth a late 3rd/4th round pick. I wouldn't trust him to cover Victor Cruz one on one, feel like he would beat him pretty often, like Tavon Austin, The entire Alabama receiving core, and Rogers did. But if the Redskins would be willing to play more zone, he would do well. Like many of said, its not necessarily that he can play any position, its more of the fact that he really does not have a position, not good enough in man or has the size to play on the outside, not big enough to play safety consistently and there was a reason LSU rarely used him to cover deep parts of the field. Great playmaker but has huge weaknesses that a defense coordinator would have to build around. Last edited by donofriose; 03-27-2013 at 10:42 PM. |

Re: Thread Series: The case for/against Tyrann Mathieu
I wouldn't say he has a lack of college football experience, and I have been saying since his Sophomore year, I will not hesitate to draft him in the 2nd, 3rd, whenever. If he is our guy or the guy Shanny wants better a round "too" early than a pick too late.

Re: Thread Series: The case for/against Tyrann Mathieu
I didn't want to be the first to throw these two in the same breath. I think he plays at the same emotional level that Sean did. I would like to have him at the right time in the draft. I think the 3rd is too risky, but we need to look at's whats on the board at that time. What's the downside? We burn this years 3rd rounder, sign him cheap for 2 years and see what happens.

I bet Fred Davis and Trent Williams want to see him come to Washington.

Or they can tell him how hard it is to hide a drug problem and that the NFL will suspend your ass with the quickness.

Report: Mathieu told NFL coaches he failed more than 10 drug tests | ProFootballTalk
So in the NCAA you can just keep failing drug tests and keep playing?

I knew he failed drug tests in college but I thought it was 2-4, not 10. Holy smokes. And how LSU doesn't get penalized is beyond me.

Re: Thread Series: The case for/against Tyrann Mathieu
Right I had heard that could be motivation. I just think its pretty sad you can keep failing drug test and playing, but accept a steak dinner from someone and its time to shut down the entire program.
