File under "Class"
As he was walking off the field Sunday, Gibbs tried to signal to stadium officials to stop playing "Mama, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to Be Cowboys" on the public address system. "I just think that we always want to win the right way, and when you lose, you want to lose the right way," Gibbs said. "I think we always want to be the kind of team that does that."
This is what being a Redskin means to me.

Re: File under "Class"
Yeah I thought it was funny but it is totally against what Gibbs preaches about character, class and respect. Still it was perfect.

Re: File under "Class"
Is this the same guy running the PA system who got the fans to chant "Ravens Suck" several years ago and brought the wrath of the NFL front office down on Danny Boy and the team?
If so, how the hell does this guy keep his job? Does he have pictures of Danny Boy or his wife in a compromising position with a barnyard animal?

Re: File under "Class"
I thought they canned that guy and the announcer who would goose the crowd on third down inapporpriately.

Re: File under "Class"
I loved whoever played the Gary Glitter song and turned it down so we could be like "You Suck". I won't throw batteries at another team, but I'll gladly chant and scream at them.

Re: File under "Class"
I have a vague recollection of seeing a tape of Billy Kilmer and the Over The Hill Gang singing "Don't Let Your Babies ..." on the team bus in Dallas on the way to the game. (not sure of the players' names, but very sure I saw Redskins). This didn't seem any more harmful than Tom Landry's "surrounded by REdskins" commercial for a credit card company from the same time period.
On the other hand, I find "you suck" much more offensive. I take my 9 yr old to the games. He isn't allowed to use that phrase. I don't see why the team or the league encourages it. |

Re: File under "Class"
Classy move by Gibbs. He's always got a ton of respect for his opponents, he's definitely not one to run up the score or rub someone's nose in it. You could see the offense really let up once it got to 35-0. The defense, that's another story though.

Re: File under "Class"
The only thing I see wrong with playing that song is that Dallas will use that next year to get the team pumped up to play us. I can see them now saying remember last year how they where joking on us and playing that song. Other than that, lets all sing Mama dont let your babies grow up to be cowboys,

Re: File under "Class"
The "na na na na" part had started in Section 451 and 452 everytime a Cowboys fan got up to leave...starting in the 2nd quarter! The fans did that on their own in the end...no push from the PA.
The You Suck chants were hysterical, but the PA should not have turned the song down...the fans were plenty loud enough to hear it over the song. As far as being offended to the You Suck chants, I certainly see your point of view. Just be sure when your son hear it that it is not appropriate for him to say it, and that when he's old enough to understand the consequences, then it'll be his decision. A Skins game is also a good learning environment for learning the effects of alcohol...
