Interesting Fact

Did you guys know that under Gibbs the Redskins only ever drafted in the first round four times, and traded the pick away for vets the rest of the time?

Drafted Mark May, Darrell Green, Bobby Wilson and Desmond Howard. Only the first to did much for the Skins.

I wonder if Snyder remembers that from when he was younger watching the Skins and has alraeyd been implementing Gibbs old style.

Good point, Skins. I think Snyder's trading away picks for proven players is actually a good system. I didn't like the Brunell or Portis picks given, but we got two players that we know can play, that's more than you can tell coming out of the draft.

Great point. We make so much of first round picks but if you look at the last several years of first rounders and see how many end up busts, it's nice to get a sure thing in a proven vet.

I dont agree so much with giving up first rounders as I do the late rounders. There are plenty of players that are great that came out of later rounds, we just dont take the risk on them. Portis was a second round pick, and the list goes on of great players everyyear that come out of later round. The rookie of the year last year for the last two years have been from the second round. Its all about what system you go in to, what needs the team has, if you get to start as a rookie and who you have around you. Coles was a good pick up for us, we needed a receiver like that, im glad we didnt give our first rounder away this year though.

The other problem is somewhere on your roster you need cheap players. Trading a 5th round pick for a player is not going to be anywhere near the salary of a player picked in the fifth round. As all of you know we just have to be better with our money.

Well, we've been in salary cap hill "next year" for the last what, 5 years? I think Snyder does a better job with the cap than we all know. He tosses around money, but finds ways to make it work with the cap!

It always works for the first few years. but yes, we never were in cap hell after all the people we signed in 2000, or 2001, or 2002... I wonder if The Redskins Organization is going to be the next Enron.

Marty had a lot to do with getting us out of a bad cap situation when he was here, he really doesn't get much credit for that.

If Mitchell isn't signed by someone we should sign him for a day so he can retire a Skin. He was alway's a solid team player for many years with us. I was bummed when we cut him! He was definitley won of mr favorite all time Redskins.

Agreed, but the fact that he went to two division rivals kind of irks me...

He also cut a bunch of players that no one wanted him to. They wernt necessarily bad cuts, but when say Tre Johnson and Stephen Alexander were cut it made a lot of peopel sad becuase they were well liked.

could have been under Marty, he cut a lot of players that most of us loved. Its not that they were bad cuts, the players were either old or injured in almost all of the cases. But they cut a lot of what Gibbs would call 'core redskins'
