This Is The Year For Dockery
The Virginia Pilot is running some good articals on players that I will post. If I should post them somewhere else let me know. Today's article is about this is Dockery's year to step up or step aside. Bugle and Brown spoke very highly of his talent and how he has a little nasty in him this year.
http://home.hamptonroads.com/stories...438&ran=215562 This was from yesterday on how it hurt for Daniels to miss so many games do to injury. http://home.hamptonroads.com/stories...386&ran=127747 |

Re: This Is The Year For Dockery
Good articles.
Dockery is very important this year--he's got to get consistent, and he's got to dominate (which he has the body to do) at times. Glad to here Buges is still with him. The line is KEY. As for Daniels, he really is like a new free agent upgrade--hope he stays healthy! If he can demand a double-team at times, it makes the blitz all that more effective. (Same with Lavar--that is often forgotten: Lavar demands attention wherever he is on the field. That frees up others to make plays, especially in the ever-changing WIlliams scheme...)

Re: This Is The Year For Dockery
Really great lines have smart, aggresive and quick guards. Dockery so far has not shown to be any of these. Our past great lines had great guards like Russ Grimm, R.C. Thielman, Mark May, Mark Schlreth.
Randy Thomas is good, he is a keeper, but I am still not yet sold on Dockery. I am not saying cut him, but I want to see more from him. He needs to prove he belongs. Not just hang on to his position, but really be strong and nasty. |

Re: This Is The Year For Dockery
If he does struggle again this year, and maybe next year he sucks too, Bugel trades him to Gregg Williams to be a Defensive Tackle. Gregg trades back one of those tight shiny shirts he always wears. Or maybe some of his hairspray.
But it's not a stretch to imagine a 6'6" 340 lb guy with nimble feet on the defense. I dont think his height is a detractor in that scenario. He may not be fast enough. But i love defenses with fat asses sitting in the middle. |

Re: This Is The Year For Dockery
i hope dockery has a breakout year. one of things people don't realize is we have a lot of continuity on the o-line. the only new member we have there is casey rabach. if dockery becomes solid this year, we could have a great offensive line for years to coem.

Re: This Is The Year For Dockery
I liked what he said in one of the articles about he didn't realize how slow Coles and Gardner were last year until you watch the speed of Patten, and Moss, I imagine that can be coupled with Brown, and Jacob's, as well.
I just hope that most of the problems we had last season on offense can be attributed to Coles toe, and the lack of speed and effeciancy by our WR's? As far as Dockery is concerned, he will have a big test this weekend going up against that carolina D-line, that will give any O-lineman nightmares! |

Re: This Is The Year For Dockery
I'm feeling that there is no "magic bullet"--it's not one guy that screwed it up last year, and it's not one guy to fix it this year. When the WHOLE squad on offense gets it going, we'll be a force to reckon with. But everyone, from Dock to PR to Portis has to pull his weight. And they have to do it because they would die for the guy next to them--becuase they can't stand to let their teammates down. When that happens, we will be great again.

Re: This Is The Year For Dockery
Dockery's improvement is VERY important to the offense this year. I hope I'm wrong, but I think he's destined to be a mediocre guard in the NFL and will wind up as a career back-up.
However, he ain't gonna move over to defense. One of his major shortcomings as an offensive guard is that he is not quick with his first couple of steps. That's polite; he is REALLY SLOW wioth his first couple of steps and then rumbles into gear. On the DL, that is a ticket outta town.
