Hypocrisy among HOF voters
In Dr. Z's latest SI.com article, he lists current players who make it to the Hall of Fame. Please note that he, along with Peter King of SI, has been a vocal Monk-basher when the vote comes around.
Here are some "Sure Things": Quote:
I'm not trying to debate the merits of the players he's listed, but for Christ's sake! Be consistent in your arguments!

Re: Hypocrisy among HOF voters
What huge numbers for Harrison? He is still 1,536 yard behind Monk. He is still 95 catches behind Monk. Yes, both of those are attainable yet in his career, but as of now he is still behind our beloved Art Monk...

Hines Ward? You're kidding right?
Curtis Martin? Isn't he the Art Monk of RBs? What a joke this list is. |

And again, I'm not saying any of the players listed will or won't make the Hall. I'm sure reasoned arguments could be made for all of them - and he definitely left players off the list (Tony Gonzales is as close to a lock as anyone playing). My beef is that he is glorifying today's players using the same criteria that he keeps Art out of the Hall with.

Re: Hypocrisy among HOF voters
I think those scumbags (Z and King) have a thing against Monk. Maybe its cause he wan't accesible to the media, or lound and flashy. At one point he was the all-time leader in catches - on a predominatley running offense, how can you deny that.
Monk's record of 106 catches stood for over 10 years and in the decade of the 80's there wasn't one WR with over a 100 catches besides Monk. In the 90's alone there were 23 WRs with over a 100 catches!! what in the hell does that tell you?? If Art played in his prime in the pass happy 90's he would have over 1500 catches! You have to figure that in voting for him, he was ahead of his time! He also had a ton of different QB's throwing to him, imagine if Monk had Montana, Young, Kelly, or at best one QB throwing to him for his career! fugetaboutit! |

"Aeneas Williams and Derrick Brooks -- Long and meritorious service at corner and outside linebacker, respectively."
Art Monk--Long and meritorious service at wide receiver Like Brud said, the lack of consistency is infuriating

Re: Hypocrisy among HOF voters
Guys, drop a note in his mailbag regarding a Hines Ward to Art Monk comparison. I want to see him try to justify this one.
If enough people drop him a note, he just might address it next time. That's just ludicrous. |

Re: Hypocrisy among HOF voters
I am telling you all Monk and Martin are the same deal. Think about it. What are the arguments against Monk? He wasn't the best WR in the league at the time, he was maybe top 5. He wasn't FEARED. Martin is the same deal. At no time in his career has he been considered the best RB in the league or even close. He isn't feared like others are. Heck for a significant portion of this career he was taken out in goaline situations. And this guy deserves a "sure thing" while Monk deserves nothing? What a complete laod of crap!

Re: Hypocrisy among HOF voters
It is comforting to know that there are common sense people out there like my fellow Redskin fans. I thought i would be the only one that saw that Hines Ward thing. Dont get me wrong i like Wards game it reminds me of a Monk. He is the Rock of the recievers corps, tough, gets the job done yet is quit, humble, and just wants to win. Does that sound like anyone you guys know? Let me give you a hint- #81
