San Diego dealing with the Postons.

Quote:
San Diego Chargers: The Chargers have rebuffed a proposal from the agents for first-round pick Shawne Merriman in which the former Maryland defensive end would have attended the club's offseason program but not participated in any on-field activities.

"There is no such thing as a half-Charger here," general manager A.J. Smith told the San Diego Union-Tribune. "Either you're a Charger or you're not."

The earlier of the Chargers' two choices in the first round, and the 12th prospect taken overall, Merriman skipped a recent minicamp because he and his agents had issues with the language in the injury protection agreement that San Diego uses for draft choices. Such agreements essentially stipulate that a franchise will negotiate in good faith with a player even if he is injured before signing his contract.

Merriman and his agents, Kevin Poston and Carl Poston, have said the player will sit out all offseason workouts until the matter is resolved. They have contended the language in the agreement does not adequately cover Merriman in the event of an injury. Chargers officials countered that the agreement was accepted by other draft choices and that they have used the same language for years.

"We thought we made a good-faith gesture," Kevin Poston said. "I want [Merriman] to be there, and he wants to be there. We want him to meet with coaches, talk with coaches, walk through things, but just not do any physical activities."

probably a blessing we didn't take him like many wanted to.

It seems the teams are fighting back against the Postons and Rosenhauses of the world.

I don't think it's fair to put Rosenhaus in the same category as the Postons. Rosenhaus is definitely tough to deal with, but the Postons are swindlers and also seem to be incompetent. See the "phantom 6.5 mil" with Arrington, the firing after two years of troubled negotiations (over fairly small differences in money) by Orlando Pace, and the fact that they don't even seem to be in communication at all with their current top free agent, Ty Law.

Rosenhaus is tough, but I'd rather have 4-5 star players on my team having him as an agent than 1-2 star players on my team who had the Postons. Drew will at least try to work around the cap with a team (especially when a team has multiple players). The Postons seem more like loan sharks/mobsters with a touch of incompetence thrown in for good measure. I think the difference may be is that Drew MAY (speculating here) actually care about his players. The Postons obviously (to me, anyway) don't.

Re: San Diego dealing with the Postons.

Go Chargers. Stand strong.

How perfect of an offseason would it be if the Postons' demands are ignored and if the Eagles stand strong against TO? I think teams are finally starting to realize that it's time to stand up to these agents and players. The players need a team to play for more than the team needs any individual player.

You got that right Daseal.......more than ever, teams are going to ask the players BEFORE the draft who do they plan to have represent them as an agent and teams will stay away from anyone with the Postons or Rosenthau..........this has got to back fire on the players one of these days...........

Re: San Diego dealing with the Postons.

The skins have always had a good relationship from Rosenhaus. So I bet we keep dealing with him.

In the Chargers defense, Merriman went to the draft with one agent, and ended up with a different one (Postons) days later.

Of course they have.........we've single-handedly made him the richest agent in NFL history.

Re: San Diego dealing with the Postons.

So maybe Snyder and Drew have a joint checking account?

I'm pretty sure he's on the payroll actually. Probably has direct deposit set up.
