Our Gates???
http://post-gazette.com/pg/05118/495692.stm
I know alot of teams are trying out exbasketball players trying to find another Antonio Gates but Chevy Troutman could do it. He has room to grow and is a very good athlete. He is from my hometown and I have seen him play football in high school. He was a pretty good DE and played TE in an offense that pretty much just ran the ball. Obviously he would have alot to learn but I do think the talent is there. |

Re: Our Gates???
What I like most is that he will try out for us this weekend, then we can offer him a deal if Gibbs likes what he might be able to bring us.

Re: Our Gates???
Jeez, I wish the NFL was my fall back option.
![]() Anyone have any insight into the athleticism he showed while playing bball at Pitt?

He is very athletic. I have seen him play basketball all four years of high school one of which they one the state championship and could have won another if some other players would have stayed out of jail. I have also played basketball with and against him at my friends house and I can tell you first hand he is athletic as hell. He will be raw but he should get a contract. |

Re: Our Gates???
I loved this guy on the court; and I will defintley be rooting for him to make the team. He was the same type of basketball player in college that Gates was; so I dont know how much that reflects, but we'll see.

Re: Our Gates???
it would be a victory for the organization if this guy just contributes in any way i think, he doesnt have to be a pro-bowler. if a guy who didnt even play football helps the team, its definitely a good thing

Re: Our Gates???
You know what. I am inspired by these guys who are just walking on and trying out. Particularly the new LB from Louisville that we drafted, who was in the Army national guard and walked on to Louisville. When I am finished with this tour of duty I am considering walking onto Maryland. Of coarse that would make me a 28 year old freshman.
Maybe I should just stick to being a spectator! |

Re: Our Gates???
I'm all for him if he shows promise. It'd be great if we sneak in a raw, but potentially good player in with a cheap contract.

Definitely. I think bball players are diamonds in the rough.

Re: Our Gates???
One guy I think could make the transition is Reggie Love. He played for both the football and basketball teams at Duke, and went to Packers training camp last year (where he was in the last round of cuts). he was a four year letterman at WR, and at 6'4" 225 he'd need bulking up. He has good hands, though, and plays a physical style.
