Just so people don't think I'm too crazy.

Adrian Peterson didn't just "go too far” research shows it's never okay to hit a child - Vox
Quote:
There's evidence that when children are spanked, their cognitive development slows. Later on, as adults, they're more prone to suffering from mood disorders and addiction problems and more likely to commit crimes or abuse their spouses or children. They're more likely to attempt suicide. All of these correlations persist when researchers control for things socioeconomic status, level of education, and parental support.

Good question ,genes suck they are the one thing you can't beat !I and my siblings (7 of us) all were given a hand to help us think once in a while but none of us beat anyone or were beaten , no one has been to or in jail ,we don't drink too much, aren't depressed any more than anyone else after watching the news , no addictions I know of , all work and hold good jobs and our kids are all either gone through or are in college ,my parents I guess didn't know how to raise kids .

Keep in mind I only took one psych course in college so obviously I'm not an expert by any stretch of the word, but in the case of gambling my limited understanding is genetics provides the foundation while issues during childhood provide the fuel.

I do know that addiction is kind of thought of as an all encompassing condition. A person might have certain vices they prefer but a lot of times quitting cold turkey just ends up with one vice being traded for another. If you're lucky it ends up being a funny quirk rather than a self destructive behavior. One of the more common examples seems to be an alcoholic that might quit drinking only to find themselves suddenly taking up a daily pot habit.

My family history with addiction is unclear but it certainly seems to be there in some capacity. Theres also one instance of a relative with an eating disorder that has since been dealt with.

I know with my own personal history that I took up smoking cigarettes right before college (Feb 2003-Jan 1, 2004) and drinking shortly after I entered college. On New Years Day I quit my smoking habit which was probably one or two packs a week cold turkey with no withdrawals so I feel pretty lucky on that front.

In the summer of 2005 because I had became obsessed with getting in shape so I quit drinking (in bodybuilding alcohol is among the worst things you can have) which probably just left more energy for an exercise addiction. Since then I might be able to fill up a single wine glass to hold all the alcohol I've had since then even though I no longer have the compulsive exercise habit.

I know today I'm addicted to a lot of relatively tame things like Starbucks Ice Mochas and bathing habits that are in line with Bryce Hapers need to shower ~7 times a day so I guess on that front I'm lucky but at the very least I'm aware that theres most likely risk for me to take up self destructive behaviors.

Due process due process. Though to be fair if there is no overwhelming evidence like AP or Rice than due process would be appropriate. Still you have to be the DUMEST Mother F'er to even put yourself close to this position.

I mean the kid AND the girlfriend. It's like he looked at Ray Rice and AP and then said to himself 'With your powers combined I am Jonathan Dwyer!'

At this point though I would really appreciate it if someone sent a PI to follow Alfred Morris. Not that I think Morris is a bad guy but right now I don't trust RB's at all.

Re: Around the NFL: Week 3

Yeah, corporal punishment for kids is outdated, and just a bad parenting practice. Essentially you teach children that if someone is doing something that you don't like then you hit them to make them stop. That's why these kids have problems later in life, the only coping skill to deal with adversity that they learned was violence.

I'm willing to bet all these guys were abused / whooped as a kid, but someone has to break the cycle.

Cardinals RB Jonathan Dwyer arrested on domestic violence charge - CBSSports.com

I wouldn't be surprised if they don't straight up cut him.

Quote:
The two altercations allegedly took place on July 21 and July 22 and Dwyer is facing a total of five charges: one count of aggravated assault causing a fracture, one count of aggravated assault involving a minor, two counts of criminal damage and one count of preventing someone from calling 911

Quote:
"We became aware of these allegations this afternoon when notified by Phoenix police and are cooperating fully," the team said in a statement. "Given the serious nature of the allegations we have taken the immediate step to deactivate Jonathan from all team activities. We will continue to closely monitor this as it develops and evaluate additional information as it becomes available."

See, I don't believe this. I believe they were aware when it happened back in July. I don't believe for one second the NFL teams don't have people inside of police departments to notify them when something happens involving a player.

It's never SIMPLE is it?

Quote:
There apparently is concern for Dwyer's mental health. The police report on the two incidents contains references to suicide.
Quote:
During his police interview, Dwyer acknowledged hiding in the bathroom when police responded to the first argument and sending a photo of a knife with suicidal threats. Dwyer denied committing an assault, though he acknowledged that he punched walls in his home, threw a phone and that his wife bit his lip during the disputes, according to the police report. As he was released from jail Thursday, he said he never hurt his son.
I mean the guys a scumbag but I certainly wouldn't wish to have him kill himself over this. Honestly if this is true I kind of feel sorry for the guy and really hope that he can get help. I honestly hate it when theres complications. I'd rather just be able to say the guys a prick and we shouldn't feel bad about locking him up.

Though at this point what might scare me even further is if someone in the future realizes that they can get leniency and sympathy by feigning suicidal thoughts.
