Field Condition

I do not know if there was already a thread about this but the field yesterday was horrible. Three players injured their knees badly, including a kicker. I do think the field had something to do with it, and Joe Buck called it "Dirt with paint over it." - or something along those lines. I thought it was atrocious how bad the field looked for a playoff game with that much time to prepare.

Pete Carrol had this to say about the field:

“It was horrible,” Carroll told Brock & Salk of ESPN 710. “It’s a horrible field. It’s as bad as a field can get for being dry. And it’s too bad, it’s really too bad. And we deserve better. . . . We deserve better. . . . It just was worn out. And there was a lot of slipping and all that kind of stuff.”

“We should just expect to see a better field at that time of year,” Carroll said.

The Redskins Were Done In By Their Own "Crappy" Field

Just searching for some opinions on what happened with the field yesterday and why an NFL team provided such a poor surface to play on. There are hundreds of high schools with better surfaces than that. You can just look around Northern Virginia. What are some thoughts to possible movements since the stadium is 20 years old and obviously the field needs major improvements.

Re: Field Condition

Just put down field turf and be done with it.

I swear I remember the opening game there in '97 against the Cardinals and huge divots were coming up all over. It's always been a problem.

It would be nice to have the turf just to enhance the speed of the team. No reason not to really.

Not until we get a secondary!

They need all of the help they can get. The dirt field helps our safeties more than it hurts our WRs.

Well, it's kind of looking like the media might be "forcing" a change at Fedex in regards to the field, whether if we like it or not:

In defense of FedEx, they put down a new surface during every off-season.

I think the injuries effected them a lot as well. Losing Clemons is huge for their Dline and having an injured kicker is never good thing for playoff games.

Seattle should be upset after suffering those injuries. Of course, had the conditions been better, Clemons and the kicker would be perfectly healthy and watching the Redskins in the divisional playoffs.

Re: Field Condition

don't a lot of players blame field turf for leg injuries?

the grass is always greener...

It's not perfect either, but it's got to be better than what we've got, which is one of the worst fields in the league.

I do not have that much of a problem with grass. But I do have a problem with the poor condition of the field yesterday.

Re: Field Condition

I have a problem with a $1.6 billion franchise having a field that bad. Hire the greens keeper from Augusta National for goodness sake.

Re: Field Condition

Isn't the field in Pittsburgh worst? Also, how many years did the turf in the old Meadowland stadium tore up knees before it was fixed?

Pitt and Chicago are both bad. Not sure ours is much better really.
