Where's the love for Smoot?

On redskins.com today 12/22, an article with Marcus Washington.

Q: Are you surprised that you're the only Pro Bowl player from the Redskins' defense?
A: "When coaches revealed the names to us today, I was very surprised on that. I think that is the only thing that is kind of a bummer. We have some amazing players on the defensive side of the ball here. I was happy for myself, but at the same time I wanted to go with guys like Antonio Pierce, Cornelius Griffin, Sean Taylor, Shawn Springs--you can go down the list. It's kind of a bummer that these guys cannot share this with me."

Then, a few weeks back with Gregg Williams. (Dec. 9)

Q: Have you thought about who you feel should make the Pro Bowl from the defense:
A: "It is hard to say for me as a coach because I think that all of our guys are playing hard and at a high level. I know that Antonio Pierce, Cornelius Griffin, Marcus Washington, and both of the Sean's (Taylor and Springs)--those guys have the numbers when people look at voting for numbers. There are a lot of unsung heroes on there, too.

Is it just by accident they both forgot to mention Smoot in these interviews. Hope he doesn't read to much into it, like I do. I just don't want Smoot to go anywhere.

I don't think it was intentional.

I love Smoot, but he hasn't exactly had a pro bowl year. He's played very well, but hasn't been on the #1 receiver this year.

Hey, but at least you didn't hear his name called much, which is a good thing for a CB. Unlike Champ whos name you heard all the time. but yeah, sure it wasn't intentional. Just thought it was odd, like that group had a click or something. haha.

No, don't get me wrong, Smoot is playing excellent football, but Springs has shadowed him this year. Everyone on our defense is playing great!

Seems like someone else didn't quote all the names Washington realed off...

"That's the bummer in all this because we have some amazing players on the defensive side of the ball," said Washington, who was named to his first Pro Bowl. "I'm happy for myself, but at the same time, guys like Antonio, Cornelius, Sean Taylor, Shawn Springs, Fred Smoot - I could go on with the list - aren't able to share this with me".

Good to here Smoot wasn't forgotten.

Yeah, I heard Washington say Fred Smoot. Redskins.com didn't quote him correctly.

Pete Prisco gives credit where credit is due in his Pro Bowl article. Check what he has to say about #21, daseal.

Not having 'C-Griff' on the roster really hurts though. I understand if a lot of other fans wasn't aware of him (though his stats are on the ballot). But a fourth alternate? Every OL and QB in the league should've voted for him. Did all of you Warpathians vote? What percentage of the tally is weighted for the fans, media, etc.?

I think the players, fans, and coaches each get 1/3 of the vote.

Cpayne: I read what Prisco said, and I love Fred Smoot, but how many times this year has he been on their #1? Not many. He's made some huge plays, but Springs has had a better all-around year.

It always seems like you are rewarded for a probowl year the following season. The powers that be want to see you do it twice to prove no fluke.

If that is the case, then back to Trotter. What has he done last year and this year? Screw it. Maybe he'll get a big head with the rest of the Eagles "probowlers" and we'll laugh when they stink it up, again.

Trotter should not be there, period. He is a great run stopper but not an all around LB (like Pierce). I didn't say everyone that has a vote has a brain.
