Will The Shotgun Help Ramsey?

Why arent we ever using a shotgun formation? I think with our recieivers we could tear it up. Ramsey is getting sacked to much. Manning does very well with it.

He's been sacked 5 times in two starts, not great but not horrible either.

If the line could block a little better...

I say why not try the shotgun formation, I mean we are in a position where we should try everything at least once.

it virtually takes away half the running options since the back has to line up on one side of the line. but i wouldnt mind seeing it on 3rd and long.

Gibbs stated he didnt like it. He tried it once before and the snap went over the qb's head and he said NO MORE.

5 Sacks In 2 Games Is Not The Problem.we Would Not Even Be Having This Discussion If The Recievers Would Catch The Ball. If You Add Up All The Dropped Passes Ramsey Has Great #s

The shotgun would be great in passing situtations. Gibbs is never gonna put it in though. He's way to conservative on offense right now. He prefers the playaction pass on 3 and 15, which has just been fooling everybody.

Yeah I agree. Let's run the shotgun on every down so we can get even less mileage out of Portis. The Shotgun formation limits your running options and essentially turns your back(s) into extra wide-outs. Everybody's been bustin' on Cory Raymer being less than adequate at Center. So you want him being responsible for making a long snap, too? And the Shotgun is going to cure the lack of separation our receivers have been getting this year and will instantly cure Gardner of Stonehands-itis. Puhhhhh-lease! The success or failure of the offense starts with the O-line. Get more consistent play from them and the offense will perform better. Now if there is an offensive formation that will accomplish that task, I'm all for it.

Personally, I would like to see 4 wide receiver sets and use a lot more quick pass schemes. I know our O-line isn't great but, if we use a lot of quick slants and come-backs from 4-wide...then go for a long pass it may make our receivers to create more separation.

I say that yes, the shotgun will help Ramsey. The problem is that unless Gibbs gets another offensive coordinator I don't believe we are going to see it. I think that Gibbs will need to change or add a coach in the off season. We will just have to wait and see.

How many times did Ramsey get sacked or pressured last year with an offense using the shotgun formation? It really doesn't buy you anymore time and I believe pass protection is soley on the offensive line. If the line is healthy and players play in that position all year long, its more likely the QB will be protected. Our line hasn't been healthy and players have had to shift around; therefore our pass protection hasn't been as consistant.

I so totally agree with you SG. I think we should focus on getting a pro set offense down before we even try anything like a shotgun.
