14 Year old boy kills parents to avoid doing chores

WTF is this world coming to? I remember having plenty of disagreements with my parents at that age but never EVER did something like this cross my mind!! I would never hit or disrespect my parents in any way let alone even think about killing them! I don't know why kids are becoming so disrespectful nowadays maybe they need to get some good old fashion ass whoopings! but now you can't even touch your kids without getting in some bigass trouble! Some people call me crazy when I say that but it's not like I'm talking about beating your kids, I'm talking about disciplining kids. I don't know if many of you were hit as kids but I sure learned my lesson when I got a good belt to the ass! and I might be wrong but it seems like this kind of stuff didn't happen as much and kids respected their elders a lot more than they do now. I know this case probably has nothing to do with what I'm saying because maybe the kid was just not "all there" mentally but I still wish people weren't so sensitive about hitting their kids the way we use to get disciplined when we were out of line. I don't know maybe It's just me because there's a lot of parents where I work that won't even think about hitting there kids they feel "Time-Outs" are more effective. I guess it might be for some kids but most of these kids have no manners and the parents can't handle them when they bring them into work so I don't see it.

Re: 14 Year old boy kills parents to avoid doing chores

I dont think it is just that. Its gotta be some more issues the kid had with his parents. You just dont kill someone if they ask you to do something once. He must have felt some pressure about many things in the past, insecurities, etc.

I am not justifying it at all, but just saying that there has to be more behind this story. And yes, parents shouldnt be afraid to hit their kids to discipline if needed.

Timeouts arent always effective, you just take away their video games, tv usage, internet, cell phones, for a week, etc. Until you see the change. Of course if that doesnt work, then you can hit. I was slapped across the face as a child if I really stepped outta line. It worked. I think a limited amount of that plus incentive based punishments should work.

Yeah I'm guessing the kid has some serious issues and wasn't simply trying to get out of doing his chores.

He clearly had issues but what I'm shocked at is that what pushed him over the edge to commit such a horrible thing was trying to avoid chores! He had to have some mental issues because I don't see how else you could act like nothing happend after killing your parents. Maybe the parents needed to spend more time with him or he was one of those kids that get made fun of at school so bad that just snap all of a sudden I don't know. There's no way for us to know what went wrong without really knowing anything about his life. Maybe he was just "born evil" because the kid obviously doens't have much of a Conscience. My wife is 2 1/2 months pregnant with our first (After 6 yrs of marriage! ) and I hope I can instill better values and morals than the parents of this could with him. I'm not blaming it all on the parents because I don't know exactly what happend but the kid is 14 so it just kind of seems to me that he needed more attention I doubt a kid that's capable of this would just snap all of a sudden without any signs of some type of odd behaviors. A kid that would just kill his parents one day to avoid doing chores doesn't sound like a normal kid, there just had to of been some signs that showed he was a disturbed kid.

Should've clarified. Sorry. I think they will probably try him as an adult, and as such, he will receive the death penalty. At his age though, i'm not sure if he can elect a fast-track execution. i know sometimes you can.

Makes me think of Christopher Pittman, who executed his grandparents when he was 12. It was a deliberate murder. He shot them both to death. He was given 30 years in prison...

Regardless of how he is tried you can't sentence a minor to death. Roper v. Simmons - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Done some law work and I highly doubt they'll execute him,.. Ever. Even if they waited till he was 18. Being that he's 14 they're going to say he doesn't have adult capacity of thinking and decision making, even though it's clear he wanted to kill his parents. But it's pretty much just like sexual consent laws; If you're under 16, the law sees you having no idea what you're consenting to/doing.

I see him spending the rest of his time in a juvenile facility till 18 and then being transferred over with the big boys to serve out a life sentence (or 2).

If he was 16 and taking into consideration the how heinous and deliberate the crime was, they would most definitely try him as an adult, no doubt.

Yeah, this kid clearly has sever issues. A normal person doesn't shoot his parents and then just sit around the same house for the rest of the day.

You are correct. As with Christopher Pittman, they waited until he was 18 to try him.

This i'm sure will be the same way

Again, it doesn't matter when or how they try him. What matters is how old he was when he committed the crime. Since he was a minor when he did it he isn't eligible to receive the death penalty.
