RI: Jeremy Bridges agrees to terms

The Redskins have agreed to terms on a deal with veteran offensive lineman Jeremy Bridges, Coach Jim Zorn said, and will sign him tonight, pending the results of a physical.

So does this solve our RT woes or is he just another body in the mix?

He has some talent and teams keep trying to get him on the field. He is fairly athletic and has quick feet in a small area, and can use his long arms to control and steer defensive linemen past the play. Bridges can drive his feet to sustain blocks but just does not finish most blocks off like he should. He is a little stiff in the hips and can struggle to adjust and recover when he starts to lose it and will fall off some blocks. He has adequate lateral range in pass pro but does not recover and right himself very quickly against counter moves. He does not play as big as he measures and will get out-muscled more than you'd expect. If he can learn to devote himself to the game and keep his intensity level up he can be a very functional right tackle.

I'm not dead but this team is dead to me...but now that McCloughan is here they may have new life!

Jay Gruden = Zorny McSpurrier
Kirk Cousins = Next Grossman

Certainly won't hurt to have him around if he can pass a physical and keep his nose clean.

He is listed as a Guard. So I'm not so sure how this will affect our right tackle position OR if can make the change or has already played the tackle position in the past. But solid Guard depth wouldn't hurt a bit.

Yay! I'm happy that he has found a home with us. I hope some of the old timers keep him out of trouble.

If he grows up and concentrates on football, this could be a good signing. Maybe our guys will help him with that.

He and Williams have some experience starting in the NFL , it would be nice to have some guys who have started for depth . We need to stay healthy and have Heyer and Rinehart to make some strides this year . Maybe one of the 4 actually is so great they crack the starting lineup ?

I don't think it will be, but it definitely could be. I thought I heard he was listed as a guard/tackle so if now he's only listed as a guard it makes you think he's not in competition with Jansen and Heyer. Still like the signing though, we got a veteran o-line that are all friends so I don't think he'll be a locker room problem.

I doubt it.. Williams will probably be if He can get into shape.. The guy is hella-strong, with good lateral movement. We need bridges just in case Thomas goes down or to just plug a hole though.

I agree, I think Williams is the best option at rt. Bridges was good here in Carolina, and they really liked him for his versatility. I think he will be a good back up at guard. Heyer to me has had 2yrs for fo to see what he can do and I don't think he has performed well. He won't be the starting rt this year.

Don't understand what the plan is with the OL anymore, but we have no shortage of warm bodies, that's for sure.

To sign as many players w/o contracts as cheap as we can and let Buges sort it out.
