Merriman back to full strength?

Chargers to gather for fitness work

“I feel great, and I look amazing,” Merriman said last week.

Since Merriman was a local guy some of you may care about this. I hung out Merriman for a little while in Tampa when I went down for the Super Bowl. Apparently this month he is ready to go.

When I talked to him he laughed when I asked if he was playing this year. He could barely walk, had a very noticable limp. He said he not only doesnt know if hes playing this year but doesnt know if he'll play again.

Maybe a little of that was frusteration when saying he'll never play again. Ive never had major, or any knee surgury but I dont see someone going from a big limp, to feeling amazing in a month...

Maybe when said he looks and feels amazing he just meant how he looked in the mirror and wasnt making reference to playing football...

"I'm ready to roid rage all over the field again. Can you help me with this zit on my back?"

Seriously, if this is true. I bet steroids and HGH played a big part of that.

Re: Merriman back to full strength?

BTW...I absolutely LOVE the search feature on this board,so thank you on this...Very cool!

Anyways...Apparently,Shawn Merriman has been placed on IR with a calf injury...,but apparently,he MUST be released as soon as he is healthy from the injury.

Now,depending on the severity of his calf injury,if he were to be healthy in a few weeks and then released...should we take a look at this guy? He would be perfect for our 3-4 Defense and is only 26 years old.

Here you go...

Chargers | Shawne Merriman on IR

The San Diego Chargers have announced they have placed LB Shawne Merriman (calf) on Injured Reserve. Merriman received a minor-injury designation, which means the Chargers will have to release Merriman when he is healthy.

Re: Merriman back to full strength?

I care!

Specially considering at worse,he would be an upgrade at LB over Andre Carter who's totally outmatched at LB.

Fletcher
Orakpo
Alexander
McIntosh
are great right now...
But having a guy Like Merriman coming in to spell any of these guys for a breather or injury, would make me feel a bit better than BB Blades,P. Riley or Wilson. (although I'm very high on Riley)

The guy's a 3X Pro bowler and still young at 26 and wouldn't cost either draft picks or a high Salary to obtain because he was hurt all of 2008....Had a mediocre season in 2009 only playing 14 games with 4 sacks and 36 tackles and now is hurt again in 2010...

he could be finished,so it would be a risk in hoping he still can be a stud.
But the guy had 40 Sacks in 2005,2006 and 2007 combined.

All I'm saying is maybe he's worth a look, once he's healthy and released this season.
He's certainly young enough,to maybe get back to where he once was and at a low cost to the team.

And would provide good depth,if he produces plus we wouldn't need to draft LB's next season,as we would be pretty set for a while with what we have there. (Having P.Riley and Blades there)

And Fletcher can't play forever..

Re: Merriman back to full strength?

Merriman has all the coverage ability of Carter. If he signed here, he'd be a backup to Orakpo at the position in the defense that 98 plays, so in other words, he's not signing here on free accord.
