Thoughts on Halls New contract with SKINS
So much for the hometown discount! This is alot of coin for a 7 game tryout CB that had just got cut by the Raiders.
IMO I'm on the fence with this one. Semi glad we have the youth, but wow that's an overpayment IMO. Thoughts? Source: Washington Redskins make DeAngelo Hall one of the highest-paid CBs in NFL - ESPN Updated: February 27, 2009, 12:27 AM ET Hall returns to Skins with $54M deal The Redskins reached an agreement Friday morning to keep cornerback DeAngelo Hall, and made him one of the highest paid cornerbacks in football an NFL source said. Hall accepted a six-year $54 million deal that included $22.5 million in guarantees. The payout of the deal includes $30 million over the first three years. His agents -- Alvin Keels and Joel Segal -- were ready to explore the free agent market, but the Redskins stepped up and made an offer valued at $9 million per year. The Skins had been at $8.5 million earlier in negotiations, but apparent interest from other team forced Washington to up their offer.

But he's not worth that kinda coin/elite CB cash, IMO. But I'm not writing the checks clearly. I'll take a wait and see as if there where any other choice.

Can't believe we're releasing Smootsmack. Oh well he was only posting like 6 months a year so I guess from that perspective we were paying to much.

By cutting Smoosmack we are now 10 million under the cap. Maybe Albert Haynesworth can be a mod for 30 million guaranteed. LOL.

Without him our secondary would be thin with few better options. Its a big contract but he's a young, gifted player who seems sincere about wanting to be a Redskin seeing as he's from VA and all.

As far as signing Canty (a pure 3-4 end), you and Matty act as though 'Scouts Inc.' is your one-stop resource for all of your football needs. Wow... Try thinking for yourselves. And oh yeah, adding 'LOL' to all of your posts is NOT cool. It just makes you sound like a 12 year old girl, which based on your logic, is totally believeable.

- First, I don't think any reasonable fan is not 100% happy with the money paid for Hall. If you read my post, I was borderline on whether the team should sign Haynesworth because of the initial cost. However, you gotta pick the lesser of two evils, and since you and I don't run the team, right now that lesser evil is the Hall signing. You're entitled to your opinion on the sign, I can only counter you with my opinion. - Second, I think everyone here gives their own opinion on issues such as player acquisition, however I think just about everyone here try to find facts to back up their opinion. Granted there are people like SmootSmack who obviously have more inside information than your average fan, but me for the most part try to find somewhat reliable information online to back up anything I say. - You dissed Scouts, Inc, however allow me to enlighten you on what Scouts, Inc is... - And by the way, I am thinking for myself when I have an opinion on Canty, however my opinion is based on facts provided by Scouts and other information I have researched on Canty. Just because my opinion is different than yours, doesn't mean that it is not my own. - Finally, as you can see from some of my earlier posts, I come to this thread because it entertains me and because I'm a Washington Redskins fan. I think there's a certain level of seriousness, but there's also fun. However, I don't appreciate you singling me out and insulting me in all of your posts. Take that crap somewhere else. It's funny that you accuse me of being a 12 year old girl, yet you're the one that's being completely immature. Keep it up and I'm sure a mod will be more than happy to ban you.

I can think for myself just fine, and seeing Canty play I can tell he will be able to play in a 4-3 just fine. He's certainly big enough to play the run, and he can slide inside on 3rd downs as well. He will definitely fill the role of a Phillip Daniels type of player just fine. I referred to Scouts Inc. because it's a trusted resource and I prefer to back up my opinions with something rather than just tossing around my knowledge like I'm some sort of expert simply because I watch all of the Redskins games. If you read any of this pre-draft profiles they basically say the same thing as well, that he will fit in a 3-4 or 4-3 no problem based on his size and skill set. Re: Thoughts on Halls New contract with SKINS
Springs will probably be released very soon, if he wasn't already due to the Haynesworth signing. We go into the season with Hall, Rogers, Smoot, if Hall's play doesn't drop off we should be fine at CB.

Young DB that is pretty good, I don't know if he's 10mill a year good, but he will help keep a good young DB corp in tact!! Now lets go get HAYNESWORTH! And our D will be a TOP 5 Defense again!

Re: Thoughts on Halls New contract with SKINS
I think I'm glad to have him- definitely appreciate the youth and ability. Hopefully he doesn't end up having any attitude problems, although I don't anticipate that happening. We may have ended up signing him to a bigger deal in order to keep his salary for THIS year lower, thus letting us sign other FAs. I guess we won't really know how much we like this deal until we know how it affects the rest of our FA hunt. All we have now is a rough outline of the deal, so we don't know exactly how much it counts against the cap for this year.
Although those of us who know much more about football than I can make some pretty good guesses... |
