Evans to Redskins: Start me or lose me - DC Pro Sports Report

DL Demetric Evans, who has started in place of injured linemen like DT Cornelius Griffin and DE Phillip Daniels, will be a free agent on February 27 and he wants an assurance from the Redskins that he'll get a chance to be a starter -- or he's leaving for another team.

Me too Matt. Even if we sign a young stud DE like Brian Orakpo, heck I would prefer him to start on the other side over Andre Carter for that matter. Evans plays hard and has shown a knack for applying pressure. Consistently? No. More often than any other player on the roster? I think so. If we are going to rebuild the Lines, you can't do it all in one season and Evans could be a time buyer at one spot.

Agree. Id hate to see him star for another team. Lets keep the talent we already have.

I really like the guy, but I think we have other priorities.

Evans is never going to be a "star", but he's a solid guy who plays hard and is a capable enough starter. I think we would be wise to keep him and dump Daniels.

I meant to type I'd hate to see him "start" for another team. Not "star"

I meant to type "start" not "star". Anyway I agree for 2 reasons speaking of stars Daniels if he ever was a "star" will never become one again at 36 years old and injury proned.

Where Evens is turning 30 and has been solid. And has the ability to start and stay healthy.

Let's just be sure not to pay him starter money if we're not going to make him the 16 tame starter, which I don't think we should.

Yeah I should say I'm really not interested in giving him starter type money either. I like him as a backup/spot starter but nothing more. If someone out there wants to give him a big payday I think we have to let him walk.

Matty, why do you like Evens as a backup/spot starter opposed to a full time starter going into 09' ?

I asked Smoot the same question but he's pondering the answer.
