We should re-sign Jason Taylor (yea i said it)

Now i know what your thinking. Ive read all the posts, ive seen the production this season. But im no dummy either, and we cant give up on this guy yet...Jason Taylor still has gas left in his tank. When he was MVP that year he was at outside linebacker. Now we all know one of my former team favorites Marcus Washington is gonna be heading out the door...IF ANYTHING...IF we could even find a solid replacement at Defensive End in JTs spot... WE SHOULD AT LEAST RE-SIGN him to Linebacker. He beasts there.

I seen a couple things with Jason Taylor this year... Were not getting enough pressure up the middle...when our D-Line is pushing the pocket we make smiley faces where Carter & Taylor are at the ends...
I think we should look for another solid DEFENSIVE TACKLE before we keep shuffling our defensive ends. Theres some nice DT FAs this year.

It makes sense only to reduce his cap #, and only if he's interested in playing beyond next year. I too agree it's premature to write him off as being finished.

Let the guy go. He can't play anymore. All he's good for is batting balls down.

I totally agree . If we could come to some kind of deal with him where we could reduce his cap hit next year ( say sign him over 3 years $12-5mil in bonuses structured so he gets the money he expects next year and a little more - say 6 milion SB + 3million Roster bonus due each year 1st of august vet minimum salary ... so his cap would drop 3 milion ish this to around 6 million 5 the following year etc ... this way if he calls it quits in 2010 then all we are on the hook for is $4million pro rated SB)

That way we can see if he can regain his form at DE OR let him play as OLB in washingtons spot .

I also agree the one thing we need more than anything else is a penetrating DT, get that and suddenly the ends fix themselves ...

Re: We should re-sign Jason Taylor (yea i said it)

JT looks extremely slow this year.

However, it would be foolish to think in one year's time that he's lost everything. I think alot of it has to do w/ the fact that:

1. He had his leg bent in a direction that it shouldn't go. There was about a 99.9% chance he'd be done for the year imo.

2. He's had surgery on his calf how many times this year? You can't tell me that doesn't make a difference.

3. He's a HOF DE and former MVP. He knows how to play.

I liked the deal when we did it. So, i'm not going to 2nd guess now. We had some bad luck. Maybe he'll be healthy next year.

Good post. A lot of people were really happy with this deal when we did it, which is fine. But a lot of people who supported the deal have since turned on Taylor and Cerrato and that isn't fair. I admire your honesty.

are we talking Jason Taylor, or Bruce Smith? alot of similarities. i liked the deal when it when down, but Taylor is obviously at the end of his career. let him go

anything we can do to get out of paying him 8 mil next year sounds good to me. While i havent given up on the guy either, i havent seen anything to expect him to play up to a 8 mil expectation level. honestly, if he doesnt want to restructure or if there is no other way of getting out of being on the hook for 8 mil next year, id cut him but thats just me.

Re: We should re-sign Jason Taylor (yea i said it)

Regardless of whether or not he's any good anymore, he's still the second best DE on the team. Since he's signed through next year, it would be irresponsible to cut him, unless the Skins decide to go through a major rebuilding process (which is highly unlikely).
The question of whether or not he starts is dependant upon who we pick up in the off season.

I like the OLB idea only if we get rid of Marcus Washington. We still need a stud DE and DT

He needs to demonstrate in the last three games that he is deserving. So far that has not really happened.

Re: We should re-sign Jason Taylor (yea i said it)

What has JT shown that would warrant re-signing him, much less paying him $8M that he's due to come back next season? You must be seeing something that I can't. I was as excited as the next guy when we traded for Taylor, but I don't see him suddenly recapturing his Pro Bowl form next year at the age of 35. If he can't give you that level of play, then he's a huge liability at his current price tag.

If he's willing to take a pay cut I'll keep him, but if he wants more money let him go.
