Shouldn't Sean Taylor.............
Shouldn't Sean Taylor be considered one of the most feared tacklers in NFL history?
I was watching the top ten most feared tacklers on the NFL Network and they had some pretty hard hitters on that list. Now the way I see it, Taylor should be on that list. A short career may keep you out of the HOF, but it damn sure doesn't keep you from being feared. I just don't think that the NFL celebrates his extraordinary talent, if only in NFL films. When I say celebrate, they don't have to talk about him every game, but I think NFL films should at least show some of the unhuman like plays he did make in his short time here. What better way to show kids in the future the diamond in the rough that the NFL once had. I don't think that people really know how big, strong and fast that this guy was. AND HE WAS STILL LEARNING! The only way to see a safety like that was to create him on Madden. If talent was a gemstone, Taylor's would surely be on display at a heavily guarded museum for all to see. We may be old, the next time we see a player like that come along again. He should be on that list! |

Possible it was an old show, if not it's a travesty.

Re: Shouldn't Sean Taylor.............
I'm not saying it's a travesty, but I just hope people can enjoy such a rare talent for years to come.
Look at Bo Jackson. Had he kept playing, he would have set the rushing record so high that Emmitt Smith would have had to play 25 years to break it. These two guys, along with players like Barry Sanders, Jim Brown, Deion Sanders, a well coached Mike Vick and etc., all are cut from a different talent cloth. |

You won't get a lot of disagreement on this site. Personally, I think Sean is one of those players whose stature and legend will only grow with time. Kind of like Gale Sayers, who we all now forget only played a couple of seasons.

Re: Shouldn't Sean Taylor.............
Sean had made his name known to Skins fans very quickly after he started playing. Other people where just starting to take notice unless you where a Giants, Dallas, Eagles fan or player who had to face him a couple of times a year. The other 28 teams players and fans did not really get a chance to see what we did every Sunday. Unless you watched the Pro Bowl.

Re: Shouldn't Sean Taylor.............
Here was the list, looking over the entire history of the league I'd say it's a pretty tough list to crack for a guy who had a short career. And when Lott is only #4 you know it's a hard hitting list:
John Lynch #10 Steve Atwater #9 Jack Lambert #8 Ray Lewis #7 Jack Tatum #6 Hardy Brown #5 Ronnie Lott #4 Lawrence Taylor #3 "Night Train" Lane #2 Dick Butkus #1 |

Re: Shouldn't Sean Taylor.............
Mike Vick was no way near over rated..He changed the quarterback game like Taylor did for linebacking. If Vick had any receiver help he would've been a force to reckon with. As far as the list its seems pretty accurate to me.

Re: Shouldn't Sean Taylor.............
Vick defined the word overrated and he didn't change the game at all. Whenever he faced well coached defenses that didn't allow him to run wild he struggled. He was an amazingly elusive as well as amazingly average NFL QB. For all the hype he might be one of the most overrated players ever.

Re: Shouldn't Sean Taylor.............
I agree with someone else that Sean's legend will grow with time, but more so among Redskins fans. I think he will ultimately have his place among NFL safeties, not sure how high on the list though.
As far as Lambert goes, I think he was one of the most intimidating, but not one of the hardest hitting. There's a difference. Lambert was a very intense player though. |

Re: Shouldn't Sean Taylor.............
This list is the most feared tackler not hitter, right?
I don't want to start another Lavar theme, but for a couple of years he was a pretty fierce hitter as well. Not tackler, hitter, and there is a difference. ST wasn't the best tackler in the world, he was a hitter. |
