I am hoping that is Greg Williams gets the job he is allowed to bring in Floyd Reese as the GM - that would be a perfect scenario for the Skins and would solidfy our FO.

Or Bobby DePaul and/or Charlie Casserly. Snyder owes him.

His current title is Director of Pro Personnel. I believe that if they hire him as a GM that we could get away with it.

Isn't DePaul with the BEARS?
You want a GM from THERE?

Didn't they pay Archuleta's Redskin bonus to get him after he flopped?
What about their QB disaster situation.
I'm not a fan of the Bears moves...
I'm sick of Casserly too...that dude didn't do so well....westbrook?....shuler?

I like the Reese, GWilliams combo idea best

The Bears have a solid young team, they've just missed on their qb selections, which is hardly uncommon. They went to the super bowl w/a pretty low payroll as I recall.

btw, I think Orton can be a decent starter if they give him time.

Here's his bio, he worked for us before and has local roots having played at Maryland and so forth.

Bobby DePaul, in his sixth year as the Bears director of pro personnel, has played an instrumental role to Chicago’s two division championships achieved during his tenure with the team. Hired on June 19, 2001, the 17-year NFL veteran came to Chicago after serving as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles player personnel department for four years following an eight-year career as an NFL assistant coach.

DePaul evaluates players in the professional ranks, prepares the club for its acquisitions through free agency or the waiver wire and manages the advance scouting for Bears opponents. In addition to supervising the pro personnel department, DePaul has a hand in day-to-day football operations, assisting with salary cap maintenance, contract negotiations and overseeing the development of scouting football systems technology.

DePaul entered the NFL in 1989, hired by former Bears defensive back Richie Petitbon as a member of Joe Gibbs’ coaching staff at Washington where he stayed until 1993 after winning an NFL championship with the Redskins’ Super Bowl XXVI victory over Buffalo. The Bowie, Md., native then served on the Bengals coaching staff for three seasons before joining the Eagles as a scout.

Born in 1963, DePaul attended Archbishop John Carroll High School in Washington, D.C., where he played fullback and linebacker on a team that lost only once during his three-year varsity career. DePaul attended the University of Maryland and played linebacker on three Atlantic Coast Conference champion Terrapin squads and made four bowl appearances under former Detroit Lions and San Diego Chargers head coach Bobby Ross. DePaul and his wife, Lisa, have two daughters, Ariel and Ashley.

Who do you think saved the Redskins money, dah,You can,t blame draft picks by the GM on a pwesonel director , you have know clue to what he really does, may be he does the scouting, salary cap, propersonel, contracts, what has vinny done, what have the bears done, really DePaul should probably go to a team dedicated on winning because dan is not a gm he is just an investor and right now,he s definitely making money regardless of winning, so does he really need to make changes , no,he making money thats why he wont change, if it isnt broke dont fix it

I think it's highly unlikely that Gregg Williams, even if he is named head coach will have any impact on whether Dan Snyder does,
or does not hire a GM. In most cases it's the other way around.

However, I would like to see Snyder pressed on the issue as to why he's so adamant in his belief, borrowing his phrase "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" It is broken, and needs to be fixed. I have my own opinion as to why he won't hire a GM, but I'll leave that for another discussion.

Re: Yet Another Opinion That Skins Need A GM

Given the history of danny/vinny, it's easy to make this argument, yet it's as if the writer at the same time gives them credit (w/Gibbs) for recent free agent & draft acquisitions. IF this was Gibbs doing, then theoretically you replace him w/a coach that can have the same impact in personel. In addition, keep the scouting dept. in place that Gibbs put together.

Some articles have given GW credit for the youth movement on d. If that's the case, it seems he has been pretty good in scouting (of course, AA was a major fa blunder). I rode the GM bandwagon for a long time, but I'm inclined to think that if the front office is willing to change its philosophy & build through the draft more, then we have the scouts & staff that can make good on most of our picks, even w/the danny having final say. In recent years they've had few picks, yet have been able to find guys that not only made the team, but contributed and/or started. Let's see how they do w/a new head coach before getting the GM talk started again. That's my opinion & it looks like the way it will go given the danny's comments last week.

I am so tired of this argument. I dont necessarily disagree but it has been made so many times and it is obviuos that they are not going to do it. I wish the media would just move on. There is no one alive who cares about football who does not know that EVERYONE thinks they need a GM and that Snyder doesn't. It simply isn't going to happen. Maybe some day but I seriously doubt what the media thinks or what we as fasn think has any bearing on it.

I hear ya. The subject is getting real tired.

I realize it's just another opinion and we all know what opinions are like, but at least the article isn't about Jessica friggin Simpson or Coyd Boyd or who ever the hell that guy is.

FRPLG - you are correct on this one - as myself and many frustrated Skins fans will agree that no matter how much the media or posters bitch and complain about the Redskins FO structure it is going to be a long time before Synder changes his ways on this one - I tend to beleive Synder might never do it just to try and prove everyone wrong.

I have had many discussions with other posters on the GM subject and my main argument has always been to have a seperate GM and head coach because when the head coach is also the GM often the long range approach to building a team is dropped and the win-now at all cost approach is incorporated because coaches are often under this mantra.

My next best hope outside of bringing in a GM is to continue using the approach of building the team using the draft philosphy. We have tried to buy the championship via free agency with Synder a couple of times and while it creates a lot of media buzz and increases marketing sales, successful on field results have not really happened.

I think when you look at teams across sports it always starts at the top and if an owner is smart enough to bring in a professional GM to run the ship the chances for success are almost always greater. Look right here in DC at the Wizards - Ab Pollin stuck by wes Unseld way too long and Unseld made some of the worst trades in history and when the team is finally able to land a good GM in Ernie Grunfeld look at the success on the court that followed.

If the current structure is successful in the draft & builds a young solid team, does the team still need a proper GM? Who knows what the role of the next head coach will be in personel, but it looks like it will be the same 3 headed monster. I have no problems w/how the front office is structured so long as they make sound decisions & field a consistent winner.

Give Danny, Vinny & GW a chance at building through the draft & minimizing free agent signings, then we can see if the team really needs a structural change in the front office.
