Where Was Calvin Johnson?

Before the draft I was one who thought CJ was the best pick out there and prayed he would fall to the Skins. Well, yesterday CJ was non-existent - almost literally. I guess he's been slowed by injuries or whatever. But boy am I glad we got Landry instead!

I don't think Detroit should draft a wideout in the first round for another 20 years. It's a curse.

I am guilty of those thoughts before the draft as well.
Hmmmm, maybe Joe2 does know more than me???

I'm standing up. No disrespect to Landry cause he is really really good, but I'd still rather have CJ. It's not like he hasn't done anything. He has already scored twice and he missed a game.

Like I said, I was all over CJ during the draft.

I think there's something in the water in Detroit.

Calvin Johnson's injured. He's not bust yet. You're a bit premature with your call.

Point is he hasn't come right in and revolutionized the game as we were promised we would by the talking heads. Not that he's a bust, far from it. Just not worth the 2nd.

Who promised he would revolutionize the game? The media? Football people know he is going to need time like all rookies. He's only played 3 games. Let the guy learn like everyone else. Jerry Rice didn't do a damn thing his first year except drop a bunch of passes. Marvin Harrison didn't do anything til his 3rd year. Barely any rookies come in and take over the NFL. It just doesn't happen.

I bet in a year or two from now the guy is going to be killing DB's.

Yeah, give him a couple years. The guy is just so big and drips pure raw talent that there is no way he won't be good.

Re: Where Was Calvin Johnson?

That's the problem with high draft picks. These guys get hyped and then the evaluation process just becomes a talking headfest.

I did my research on Okoye predraft, and it really doesn't surprise me that in his first 4 games he got 4 sacks. Wish we would have had the balls to take him (even though our DT situation is far from bad), but Landry isn't exactly chopped liver himself.

CJ will be a fine receiver in this league, but a total waste of the second overall pick. Not that we didn't know that at the time. Anyway, my Dwayne Bowe rookie prediction is right on track.

But hey, at least the Lions will get more utility out of the second overall pick than the Raiders will get out of the first.

Re: Where Was Calvin Johnson?

Way to early to write off CJ, but I still think we made the better choice in taking Landry. He's really solidified the secondary, you would hardly know he's a rookie the way he's playing.

LaRon was a bomb pick. Arguably the best defender in the draft.

Agreed. He and Taylor seem to mesh real well and that's as important as Landry being the beast that he is.
