Depth Is the Key......

Every great team has great depth. I'm starting to see this with our team. Yes I know, waaaaaay too early to be calling us great! I understand that. However, at least we're heading into the right direction. We seem to have pretty good depth with our quarterbacks, running backs, linebackers, and our secondary. The only area (other than the OL and DL) that I am concerned about it our WR's. This is where we really need Brandon Loyd to step up. Believe it or not, we are building this thing right. Getting our defense strong (I think it's going to be killer this year,) and continuing to build on offense with younger players (Campbell, Moss, Cooley, Portis, etc...)

Last year should've never happened! I see good things happening this year.

depth issues:
OL
DL
WR
TE

we have RBs, DBs, and one good reserve at LB... i guess you can call our QB depth good, but the top end there isn't exactly carson palmer.

I guess I'm more ok with the DL seeing how things look in preseason. OL is obviously a concern, as it TE--the drop-off from Cooley is very great.

I still feel that WR is ok, and it's more a matter of system timing and chemistry stuff, rather than lack of players. They still haven't really got the timing of Saunders attack, IMO, but you do see flashes.

I think our TE depth is fine. It's just we have two different kinds of TEs.

I think our depth is fine.

How many teams have better than average QBs as the back-up? I would say a handful...Carolina, AZ, Jags, Steelers come to mind, but you're not talking a ton of teams here. I'd certainly take Brunell over the majority of 2nd strings out there.

Along the OL, I would dare say most teams probably have 2 quality backups at best, and then they fall off some. You figure if Heyer makes the team, he's held his own as a rookie, and either Wade or Pucillo will be a reserve. Both are steady at their respective positions. Wade filled in admirably at tackle last year, and Pucillo has played both center and guard already.

All I'm saying is, I aint complaining.

Re: Depth Is the Key......

I've said it in another thread and I'll say it here: we need ALL our draft picks and address the OL this next draft. Take OL with the first pick and then a DE with the second and we'll be looking good youth-wise.

It will definitely be nice to have all our picks next year. I totally agree. Hope we don't trade any.
