Re: Draft Grades
Well you knew that was going to happen given the number of picks. Mel Kiper is probably closer to the point with a C-. Can't say that the Redskins had a great draft, but they made the right pick at #6 (esp. given JLC's commentary that they feel DE is a bigger need than DT, and Jamaal Anderson was definitely not worth the #6 - or #8 - pick IMO). These grades are always pretty worthless anyway, just go check out some ones from past years.

Re: Draft Grades
i don't really care what anyone has to say. We did what we could with the amount of picks that we had. I am happy with most of our selections, especially dallas and landry. Next year we have all our picks and will be able to have a full draft.

Re: Draft Grades
Kinda funny how Miami got an 'A+' from sportingnews.com and an 'F' from espn.com. Lets you know that maybe there is a bit of subjectivity to the process...

Re: Draft Grades
Kiper's grades seemed to be pretty forgiving. Given that the lowest grade he gave out was a C-, the same score that we received, I'd say our draft was a pretty unsuccessful

Re: Draft Grades
These grades are correct. The Redskins blew it. An average grade of 1.2 (D) is right. Actually I would have given them an F. An F for failure to acquire anyone in a position of need. Not one single defensive or offensive lineman. Horrible draft. Landry better be a pro bowler. If Jamaal Anderson ends up being a pro bowler, this draft will look even worse.

But what this draft tells me is GW and Blache think we can get by with our d-line. Let's hope and prey they are right. |

Re: Draft Grades
Landry didn't fill a need??
I guess you can say that if you think Prioleau or Fox are capable 16 game starters. And considering our lack of depth at LB, I think Blades and Sartz filled needs as well. |

Re: Draft Grades
Charley Casserly gives a sober and insightful look at the draft choices each team made, and ridicules the idea of draft grades the day after the draft. Also, he mades an interesting study of the success of draft choices by round over a ten year period...

Re: Draft Grades
The grade that was given to us was a result of not having draft picks, they could have given us that grade before we ever made a selection, the fact is they say we had the worst draft, and yet we did draft the best defensive player in the draft according to most of these same experts. Funny I wonder what they were expecting from the 5th rd on? Blades? I can't complain about that pick, saw some highlights, the kid is a player. Not expecting much from the rest, but considering what we had to work with I will take those 2 and be happy, although we should have drafted Crosby.
You would be hard pressed to find some one more criticle than I when it comes to personel moves by us, but I was impressed with the fact they were able to resist the temptation to draft DL when none of these guys will be as good at thier positions as Landry will be at his. And yes he does fill a huge need, there is a reason AA was ripped constantly by most of us here last season, it wasen't because he wasen't playing a position of significance, we found out how significant a safety is especially in williams defense. Right now I am more concerned with who will play left guard than the play of a healthy D-line. Williams has what he needs on defense now he can bring pressure from other areas so long as we can now cover in the secondary. |

While I do not put much stock in the opinions of the avalanche of media ninny's that load the airwaves with their jackassery of stupidity, note the following. Mel K. Jr is one I consider knowledgeable. I was listening to the ESPN overnight, last night in Mel K. jr interview about, HOW the Redskins draft could be rated above numerous other teams with a full range of picks? MK responded that the Skins had a good draft with a GREAT pick of Landry in the first, being the "best D pick" avaliable in the draft. "They also certainly took care of some depth (if not some starting help) in the later rounds with some savvy picks". "Had they had a full compliment of picks, they would have been near the top in my opinion". Good to hear from MK.

And I'm talking the greatest coaching job by a DC ever. What happens in 2008 now that we still have no young DLmen? Almost certainly another 2006--best case scenario. We will be dealing with two regressions: 1) the normal age regression 2) the regression from the greatest coaching job ever to a more reasonable average performance A defensive rank of 30 in 2008 seems, if anything, a bit optimistic.
