1991 Redskins on NFL Network Friday

Not sure if anyone out there has been watching the new series America's Game on NFL Network. It talks about the inside stories of the Super Bowl winners through some of the players and coaches. Last weeks show was on the 1990 Giants told through Hostetler, Carl Banks and Otis Anderson. It was just great inside stories about the little drams that went on throughout that year. This weeks edition is the 1991 Redskins and they have that team ranked 14. I saw the clip and Joe Gibbs is telling a story about Jack Kent Cooke. Can't wait to see this next Friday at 8pm. The good olds days for one hour.

That's the most underrated team in NFL history, imo.

I was at one of the losses...it was the last week of the season in Philly. They yanked all the starters and lost on a last second field goal. That was really a 15-1 team...they never would have lost that game if they kept in the real players.

Had we gone in undefeated, we definitely would have won that game.

IMO, we were the biggest threat to the Dolphins 16-0 season along with the 85 Bears.

A 1-15 Dallas team spoiled it for us.

Dallas was a playoff team last year. They lost in the divisonal round like 33-6 to Detroit who we beat in the NFC title game. The Cowboys were 1-15 in either 89 or 90...but yes that one win was against us.

It was in '89 I remember that game, Ed "Too Tall" Jones batted down a desperation pass on the final drive that would have given the lead back to the Redskins.
It was also Jimmy Johnson's first year as a head coach and some conspiracy theorists speculate that he tanked the season on purpose to get the #1 draft pick to go along with the truckload he had already gotten for Herschel Walker.

Finally watched it tonight (had it TIVO'd) man talk about memories. Art Monk and "the Posse", Wilbur Marshall, Charles Mann and the "National Defense". That was fun to watch.

I still think the 1983 team would have gone in as one of the greatest ever if not for that stupid loss in the Super Bowl. But I agree the 1991 team was amazing. I gotta say though in a way I'm glad we went 14-2 (not that I was happy to lose to the Eagles) instead of 15-1. Because I would hate to think that the one loss we'd have looking back on that year would have been to the Cowboys.

Game film for this current team should be highlights of that season every week.

I honestly think the 83 team was the best we ever had. 83 team had two regular season losses by one point and something like 540 points. +41 turnover ratio. Just amazing. But the 83 Raiders were a bunch of bad asses.

The 1983 team was awesome. I have a magazine article from right before the Super Bowl comparing them to the 70's Steelers. That would be looked on as one of the greatest teams ever if they had won that game...and Joe Theismann would be in the Hall of Fame.

I was in fifth grade that year, and that was the first season I really became an NFL fanatic. Never thought that 15 years later I would view that as the highlight of my sports life!

That's so cool. That 91 team is what also made me an NFL fan. I loved watching them play, particularly the Posse. I've been a Skins fan ever since. I don't remember what grade I was in, but I was young too.
