Redskins vs. NCAA

Just had a buddy IM me and say that the Skins would lose to OSU. Of course, that's the most insane thing I've ever heard anyone say and I know we've had discussions about it in other threads, but wanted to go ahead and start one of it's own.

I told him that the best NCAA team on it's best day could not beat the worst NFL team on it's worst day.

Anyone have any ideas to the contrary?

Re: Redskins vs. NCAA

The best college team could probably hang with and compete with the worst NFL teams, but I still think the NFL team would win out the majority of the time.

There's just so much more preparation and attention to detail in the pros vs. college.

Sorry Matty, but I have to disagree. The Best college team would lose by 30 points to the worst pro team. The very best college team might have 10 or 12 players at the most good enough to continue at the pro level. The worst NFL team would win EVERY time.

The only reason I leave the door open a crack to a college team being able to compete is that anything can happen. Injuries and turnovers are the x-factor that would give a college team a chance.

They could run up the gut on the college team 75 times in a row just due strength size and speed, and there would be nothing the college team could do about it. Just that mere fact would take care of any other questions.

That's what I'm saying Matty and Zimmermans. I want to use everything in this thread to tell him to F off. He's like, "Well size doesn't mean anything when it comes to preparation." He acts like even teams like the Raiders don't prepare.

The fact of the matter is, they're ALL NFL PLAYERS. Even the best schools don't field an entire team of players going in the draft, much less kids who will be starters for NFL teams.

Re: Redskins vs. NCAA

This is an argument that comes up from time to time when people see a dominate college team and compare them to a weak NFL team. The theory is they are soooo good, they could beat an NFL franchise.

No way, no how could a college team beat an NFL team. Just for the sake of pride, they would never let it happen. It's hard enough for a rookie quarterback behind an NFL line with NFL receivers and running backs behind him to adjust to the spead of the game. I can't imagine that times 11?

I think any NFL team is at least 3 or 4 touchdowns better than a college team.

I mean the worst player on any pro roster was probably one of the best (top 3 or 4) players on his college team. The talent differential is just too great

I agree with TAFKAS, I mean even on the best college teams there are only a handfull of players that will make in in the NFL. Take OSU, lets say that 8 members from their starting Offense and Deffense make it in the NFL. That would mean that the OSU team would have 8 would be's total going up against a 53 man roster that is in the NFL...

Now, I know that OSU could have more than 8 starter make in the NFL but I was just using it for an example...

Each college team has NFL talent but every NFL team is full of talent...

Re: Redskins vs. NCAA

EVERYONE in the NFL is fast. The game is played at an entirely different speed. The best college teams still only have a handful of guys who are fast enough to get drafted into the NFL. There's a reason the option never shows up in the pro game. LBs and safeties are WAY too fast for it to work.

Take OSU. Yeah, I'd love to see Troy Smith read an NFL defense and try to attack it with his college offense, especially when trying to run the option. Put him up against any NFL team. Raiders? Asumughwawawawawa would pick him 9 times. Lions? Dre Bly. Cards? Adrian Wilson.

TMC, sounds like your buddy needs to watch more football. Either that or stick to figure skating.

Yeah, but he's also a guy who pops boners over college football, that's HIS sport. Even USC with Bush, Leinart, White and the rest probably couldn't even score on Detroit or Oakland.

Yeah definitely not. Guys like Shaun Rogers and Derrick Burgess would ravage the best college offensive lines.

Re: Redskins vs. NCAA

Also consider the concentration of coaching. Let's take DeWayne Walker, for instance, he was our defensive back coach. He's UCLA's defensive coordinator. Point being, there are more 'specialists', if you will, preparing and focusing on each position 'up here', as Joe Gibbs would say. Where as in college you have a lot of generalists.
