How do you pay a bill for 40yrs and not know what you are paying for? The funny thing was that the phones have been working all of that time. I guess the Co. should have given her a call and talked her out of the lease.

Honestly, it's one of those things where you can't be too pissed. I'm sure a lot of us are paying for stuff that we probably shouldn't be.

My mother in law just found out that she was paying aol $29/month for over 6 years for her son's old email account. If you never call them, it never gets cancelled.

I think the lady could buy a standard phone for $9.95. I'm sure you can buy a classic rotary somewhere.

I beat you guys to it. I talk her into the new high tech. push button phones (you know the ones you by at Wall Wart for 9.99) and gave her a deal with the up grade. Its a twenty year lease for 39.99. I sold her the extended warranty for 5.99 with a ten dollar deductable and she pays shipping and handling. The funny part of the story was there are now 749,999 people with these old contracts. If I could only get a copy of that list.
