Taylor's trial delayed yet again

Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor has a new trial date in Miami on charges he pointed a gun during a dispute.
The trial had been set to begin Monday, but a Miami-Dade Circuit Court judge set a new date of July 10th during a brief hearing. It's the seventh time the trial has been delayed.
Taylor, who wasn't present at Monday's hearing, has pleaded not guilty and is free on bail.
The latest delay happened after the prosecutor in the case resigned from the state attorney's office after defense lawyers claimed he was using the notoriety to promote his side business as a nightclub disc jockey. The lawyer had posted links to news coverage of the case on a personal Internet site.
Taylor faces a faces a minimum of three years in prison on each of three aggravated assault charges.

Its time for the D.A. to think about cutting his losses. More delays means more time for the witnesses against Taylor to get into trouble and discredit themselves.

Re: Taylor's trial delayed yet again

All this postponing isn't good, because the prosecution gets more time to dig stuff up.

But it likely means they have no case.

You can tell how old this is getting by the only 5 post. Maybe we should only start a tread the day his trial begins.

I'm sure that has more to do with the fact that this thread is just a repeat of another one we already just had (see my above link).

Re: Taylor's trial delayed yet again

Id rather talk about this stuff (real factual information), then fantasize about how we're going to do this year, or how bad the Eagles are going to be, or anything like that. For all we know the whole team could get hurt and we win 6 games at max and McNabb could carry his team to the playoff, Lavar could light us up, and T.O. as well. Nobody knows what the hell is going to happen 4 months from now, so I don't know why all you people waist your time arguing/discussing about who's going to make the biggest impact on our team, or what our record is going to be etc, etc, etc!

I think we are going to be 12-4 and we are going to get to the title game but lose to the seahawks.

Ok, but how many separate threads do we need to discuss the exact same topic?:

Re: Taylor's trial delayed yet again

It's ok. I've jury duty for this case. My job pays me for the day off and I get paid by the court. I win. Taylor wins.

Sincerely,

Serious question: If the guy on trial was in jail instead of out on bail could the procecution keep asking for a delay ad infinitum?

Actually, since every individual has a right to a speedy trial, regardless of whether he is in jail or out on bail, the analysis doesn't change. If ST's attorneys wanted to push this case, they could. I'm sure any extensions they are seeking are being agreed to by ST's attorneys as well. There's really not any reason to deny the prosecution's request because at this point they've already got everything they need anyway. The longer this drags on, the more likely you are giving the two sides to come to a plea agreement (or the prosecution to decide to drop the case outright).

Re: Taylor's trial delayed yet again

I think the only way that Dade County saves face is by dropping the charges.

imo even when they do that they seem like a bunch of asses because of all the negative pub they have got from this(ie. the DA stepping down, and the complaining witnessess are a bunch of crooks)
