DVOA Statistics

On the recent Bledsoe versus Brunell thread, I remarked that, in my opinion, conventional football statistics were almost worthless. The remark touched off a contentious debate which I have no desire to continue. But, since this forum is the place for knowledgeable fans, I thought some of you might be interested in visiting the DVOA website if you haven't already.

DVOA is a work-in-progress. I'm not convinced that their statistics are much more accurate than the conventional at this point; but I am sold that their approach is more intelligent.

By the way, they have Brunell ranked 12th and Bledsoe 14th.

DVOA can be found here.

No offense taken.

This thread was intended only for those members who don't already know it all and welcome the opportunity to increase their understanding of the game. I'm sure there are a few.

It's hard to read this post coming from you and still keep a straight face. You just spent an entire thread refusing to listen to the points others made, maintaining a completely closed mind.

Some stats are valuable, some are worthless.

A statistic is a measurement of something. So, the question is: What are you trying to measure? And...does the stat actually give you an accurate measurement?

Regardless of your math aptitude, browsing the DVOA website on the link I provided will give you a better understanding of the problems involved.

Funny, I just spent a good deal of the Brunell vs Bledsoe debate basically stating this, but apparently you were doing a little of your selective reading.

Re: DVOA Statistics

when i pointed out you could filter things out i believe one Mr Huddle told me it was "impossible" multiple times - even though anyone with a high school degree has already done some basic work with multiple equations and multiple unknowns.

Apparently I was wrong for suggesting such a thing in that thread, but somehow Huddle is right when he suggests it. Very odd, and very convenient.

Yes, but this is a temporary blip which only raises the monthly average to .0027

I don't see this as becoming another Lavar thread problem.
