Re: This Years Draft
normally i'd tell you to use the search function, but seeing as how our draft situation has changed drastically, i'll actually post all the better round 5-7 players available once i'm done researching them.

Re: This Years Draft
(probable) SECOND ROUND options:
Code:
Antonio Cromartie (CB, would be higher but missed last year with injury) Tim Jennings (CB, top 3 speed with a 4.32 40, only 5'8", not a typical GW corner) Ko Simpson (FS, fast enough for pot corner work) Daniel Bullocks (SS, fast) D'Qwell Jackson (ILB, probably gone 20+ picks ago) Bobby Carpenter (OLB) Thomas Howard (OLB) Jon Alston (OLB, 3rd rounder, a stretch) Claude Wroten (DT) Rodrique White (DT) Darryl Tapp (DE - probably have to spend a year switching to DT, good motor and first step, terrible speed and he's short AND underweight) Stanley McClover (DE, situational rusher) Davin Joseph (311, 5.09, probably gone very early in round 2) Charles Spencer (OG, 352, 5.3, can play RT or DT/NT as well) Eric Winston (OT/TE - would struggle if needed to start right now, hyper athletic but still working on the move from TE to tackle) Chris Chester (C, can play LG or TE, super althletic, but a round 3-4 guy, huge stretch in the 2nd, needs technique work for OL positions) Todd Watkins (WR, 6'3" 4.4 202lbs, not taking a WR here) Leonard Pope/ Joe Klopenstein (6'8"/6'5" 4.6 TEs, one might be here - not taking a TE) Code:

Some guys on these lists are there more for completion, as we probably won't be seeing the skins drafting a WR in the 2nd, or a FB in any round, etc. I'll use a seperate post for a potential draft. http://web1.ncaa.org/d1mfb/mainpage.jsp (ncaa stat database) http://www.nfldraftscout.com (specific draft data and rankings) http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com (general, less hardcore rankings) were used in compiling this, as well as seeing some of the players in games, at the combine, at the senior bowl, etc. |

Re: This Years Draft
This kid looks good and is projected to go around the time we pick. I like his size, speed and most impotantly is described as very physical player against the run. I like the sound of that. Has size to play safety as well. His only weakness is he played division II
Danieal Manning Height: 5-10 3/4 | Weight: 202 | 40-Time: 4.46 Strengths: Has excellent size and a solid frame...An tremendous athlete...Has very good speed...A playmaker who has a knack for coming up big...Versatile and can play multiple positions...Has great instincts...Very physical and will support the run...Has outstanding ball skills...Always a threat to score...Also makes an impact on special teams as a kick blocker and return man...Was a prolific in Division II. Weaknesses: Did not play against a high level of competition and was a big fish in a small pond...Very raw and needs a lot of technique work...A bit of a 'tweener whose ultimate pro position is still undecided...Will have to adjust to an entirely new speed...Might not have the pure coverage skills to play corner in the pros. Notes: Could project to either corner or safety at the next level...Originally signed with Nebraska out of high school...Don't let his small school roots fool you because this guy is a great football player...One of the premier sleeper prospects in the draft. http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/sco...almanning.html |

Re: This Years Draft
obviously our draft (2,5,6,6,7,7 (late) and 6 (early)) is going to revolve around OL/DB/LB depth. We could afford competition at Punter (but don't need to waste a pick on it) and at WR #5 (also not that important). Even if we sign a linebacker, because it won't be a front line free agent, its very possible the 2nd round pick could be used on another LB to compete for the starting job. If we get one OL or DB guy, we could easily draft another in the second as well. (though if andre dyson is signed (a #2 quality CB), then we probably hold off on a DB till the later picks)
I don't think we're in the market for any sort of RB or FB, and if evans comes back, our DL starters and depth would be pretty well taken care of this year, so a late rounder may be used on a young guy, but not with our first selection. On the #2 pick: If cromartie or J Joseph are available and dyson isn't signed, they'd be better picks than spencer, BUT the low end of the draft is seriously lacking in high talent OL and we might need an immediate starter. We have backup LBs and CBs that are somewhat passable if needed, but there's no one that can step in on the O line (if spencer is gone, davin joseph should be available... not as big, but very talented as well). While Spencer is bench warming, he can also help at DT/NT. he's got 35lbs on joe S. 2 - OG/OT Spencer 5 - CB Dion Byrum 6 - ILB Stephen Tulloch 6 - FS Reed Doughty 6 - OLB Anthony Trucks 7 - QB/P Ingle Martin - not only can he pass, he's also a better punter than Frost :P 7 - FS Harrison Smith Und - WR Drouzon Quillen Und - P Sam Koch Und - ILB Jimmy Cottrell WR #5 and Punt competition, I think martin is better than collins, so maybe (if he can't punt better than Frost) he could be put on the practice squad or conviently get an injury (like simon, melvin williams, and manny white before him) till next year when collins may not be needed anymore. OR replace him Will Montgomery (C), who's althletic, but is definately a project in need of a weight room. other LBs and safeties could be brought in, but they're clearly a class down from those taken a round or two earlier. |

6th (panthers - for rod gardner) 7th (comp pick, for losing 2 FAs (smoot/pierce) and getting two much cheaper FAs (patten rabach) in the same year... the value difference should create a 7th round pick). |

Re: This Years Draft
LB Thomas Howard...his best 40-time is a 4.38, thats crazy for a linebacker. I'm not sure if he'll make an immediate impact, but few second rounders do.

Re: This Years Draft
Jimmy Contrell !!! I got to see him play here at NMSU and he's a monster. Named to the All WAC Team at LB. He would be a great pick up in the 6th or 7th round. Nose for the ball. Gibbs I'm tellin you draft this guy, lol.
