I think we're all going to be seeing a lot of deals signed that make us go WTF he's not worth that much!!! That's the effect of a one-year salary cap increase of 20%. This new CBA is already having a big effect on salaries. We saw Randle El get paid about as much as we paid to Santana Moss. That's just the way the market is now. It will probably take some getting used to, for all of us.

The question I wonder about is how will players with existing contracts feel about these new guys getting such big money. I can see a lot of them beginning to pursue raises. Luckily, the Skins built big time salary increases for 2006 into the contracts of the current players. So our players will probably be pretty content. Others around the league could have problems though, should be an interesting situation to watch.

I agree, Schneed. The new CBA has jacked up prices, so these numbers aren't SO out of whack. I figure that Gibbs and co will keep the core group happy down the road--not giving to much to AP becuase of Marcus Washington set that precedant. We'll see how it plays out.

Man, the agents must be loving life about now...

Another reason the number is inflated is because if they gave him exactly what they think he's worth then the Seahawks would just match the number and move on. They have to make this deal unappealing to the Hawks. If the Vikes are gonna get him the Seahawks are going to have to make the decision that he's not worth that much dough. Now they have 1 week to match the contract.

That weakens the Hawks!!! This is why if he moves on or they have to throw that kind of cash at a guard! As for paying EL that kind of cash he is more then a WR...a kick and punt returner as well as a 4th QB! He can do so much!

let me start by saying G.D. that's a lot of money. I would never give that much to an o-lineman.

It's basically Chris Samuels money, 7 years and $49 million. Again, it's the new salary cap taking affect.

Samuels is a LT not a guard! Not saying Samuels is worth that kind of money or not but LT are paid more!

out of all positions on the offense, a premier lineman is the one guy that deserves to get paid big bucks. randy thomas is just as important to our run game as portis.

Seahawks | Contract update: Hutchinson provision
Mon, 13 Mar 2006 17:12:40 -0800

Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports Seattle Seahawks transition free agent OG Steve Hutchinson has a provision in his contract which states he must be the highest paid offensive lineman on his team for the 2006 season or his entire $50 million contract becomes guaranteed, according to someone who has seen the offer sheet the Minnesota Vikings offered him. Seahawks OT Walter Jones averages $7.5 million a season and Hutchinson's contract will average $7 million a season. If the Seahawks decide to match the offer, they would have to figure out a way to squeeze his over $13 million salary figure into their cap and would guarantee the rest of his $50 million contract, which would make it the richest cash contract in NFL history by $15 million.

HOLY CRAP. THOSE VIKINGS ARE RAT BASTARDS!!

i'd love to see the seattle crash and burn, but thats seriously too much money.
